So, i wonder if this is technically possible to make a such translation ? Especially, can the special french characters like accents and the difference between french and english phrases length be a serious problem ? I wonder also if this is the good time to make this translation. Someone on the french doc project mailing list said that sysinstall will be replaced by an other software. Is this still true ? And if yes, does that mean that this would be a lack of time to translate sysinstall ? Thanks. I'm the maintainer of Chinese/Korean/Japanese boot.flp. If there's X11 BDF font, I think it's possible (is it iso-8859-1 charset?). We've already externalized the messages of boot.flp to a single message file. If you can translate this message file and src/release/help/*.hlp files, we can make French boot.flp (and of course also other European language boot.flp's). If you're interested in Japanese/Korean boot.flp's, please download them from "http://wing-yee.ntc.keio.ac.jp/hosokawa/FreeBSD-boot/". They can display Japanese/Korean characters on the standard VGA PC's. P.S.: Chinese messages are no longer maintained. We need Chinese volunteers to maintain these translation. -- HOSOKAWA, Tatsumi Network Technology Center Keio University hosokawa@ntc.keio.ac.jp To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-config" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-config Tue Sep 8 14:56:05 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id OAA20399 for freebsd-config-outgoing; Tue, 8 Sep 1998 14:56:05 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-config@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from ocean.campus.luth.se (ocean.campus.luth.se [130.240.194.116]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id OAA20262 for ; Tue, 8 Sep 1998 14:55:58 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from karpen@ocean.campus.luth.se) Received: (from karpen@localhost) by ocean.campus.luth.se (8.9.1/8.9.1) id XAA04999; Tue, 8 Sep 1998 23:51:11 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from karpen) From: Mikael Karpberg Message-Id: <199809082151.XAA04999@ocean.campus.luth.se> Subject: Re: French translation of sysinstall In-Reply-To: <199809072247.AAA03485@sequoia.mondomaineamoi.megalo> from Stephane Legrand at "Sep 8, 98 00:47:39 am" To: Stephane.Legrand@wanadoo.fr (Stephane Legrand) Date: Tue, 8 Sep 1998 23:51:11 +0200 (CEST) Cc: freebsd-config@FreeBSD.ORG X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL32 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-config@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk According to Stephane Legrand: > So, i wonder if this is technically possible to make a such > translation ? You will have to use the iso font, which makes sysinstall look like _shit_. All the frames become 8bit characters, and stuff. I don't recommend you try it, and I hope the next sysinstall (if it uses "windows" like the old one) uses minuses, pipe chars, etc to build borders on the "windows" instead of the charcters which aren't there in the iso font. /Mikael To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-config" in the body of the message
