I'm not sure what you'd rate as "production", but one of our main package build boxes (and with over 1,000 packages now, it's no small load) is an SMP machine which has been running -current with no problems for some time now - the only thing which seems to limit its uptimes are the new kernels I install on it every few months to keep it sync'd with -current. Of course, with only one processor, that's no surprise, anyhow, but understand there is *no* support for smp in any other version than 3.0. Just thought I'd drop a line to say that my Micron W6-Li motherboard with twin 166Mhz/512k L2 PPros (a steal @ $170 each, overclocked to 233Mhz with the aid of some stonking great heatsinks/fans), and a Phoenix 4.06 BIOS works JUST GREAT!! in SMP mode with a home-burnt CD of the 3.0-980311-SNAP. This is the W6LI-005 model with the integrated 2940UW and CL Vibra16. I simply set the APIC mode to 1.4 in the BIOS (default was 1.1), installed the SNAP and built a GENERIC.SMP kernel, which booted perfectly first time. Neat. Many, many, thanks to everyone involved with working on this, it's awesome! It's been running for about 10 days continuously now except for deliberate reboots, and seems completely stable. ~628 kkeys/sec/CPU with the rc5des client speaks for itself...Yowser!! :=) I'd run it at 266, but it's flakey (heh, I guess 100Mhz overclock *IS* kind of pushing it :-). 233 is stable (66 Mhz bus, 3.5 CPU ratio). Installation was entirely uneventful, except that I couldn't get the BNC port to work on the Cogent EM110 10/100 (DEC 21140) card, (autosensing doesn't work, setting the media manually gives hopeful messages but doesn't seem to get any packets onto the wire either) so I reverted to a 3c503 (ugh) until my 10/100 switch gets here, hoping that the Cogents'll work on the TX port... I also note that the dmesg output appears to be 'off by one' as to what it thinks the root partition is, but otherwise everything I've tried seems to work pretty well, modulo smbclient (Samba) dumping core fairly often... Anyone interested in the dmesg and/or mptable output? What now? Still need people to help out testing stuff as referred to on the SMP web page?
