I don't know where my handbook is, so I can't look it up (I think Intel has the handbook in .pdf format on the web somewhere, just search for PR440FX on their website). For me, only 66 MHz is interesting. For 66 MHz bus speed, the speeds available are 133, 166, 200, 233. In other words, 2x, 2.5x, 3x, 3.5x multipliers. These multipliers are changed by changing the two jumpers at the front bottom corner (next to the mobo battery, ie: the main jumper block). The two multiplier jumpers are the ones closest to the front of the computer. Here is what I know of the settings. There are three pins for each jumper, which only (of course) joins two of them. . . . --- 2x ---------> front of computer, away from cpus . . . --- . . . --- 2.5x . . . --- . . . --- 3x . . . --- . . . --- 3.5x . . . --- I am using the 66 MHz bus, and am currently using 3x multiplier for 200 MHz, and have been doing so for months with my 180s. For this email, I tried out all the settings again to make sure I remembered them correctly, and as I am writing this email I am running at 3.5x66MHz for 233 MHz in Windows98. I don't want to run that for very long before I get my big heatsinks. I haven't tried running NT on this machine at 233 MHz. I did try FreeBSD-SMP with both processors at 233 MHz several months ago, and it didn't work. The first cpu would work, but when the second processor tried to come on line the machine would lock up. Hopefully, when I get my jumbo heatsinks the chips will both be cool enough to run stably at 233 MHz in FreeBSD-SMP and NT. Works fine here. Ditto with the two I bought without RAM. Note that the motherboards and CPUs are pulls (used.) They did install new cheap-o "ball bearing" fans, but on one of mine the rotor had popped out and was floating around inside the motherboard's static bag. Taking the fan (further) apart, I saw what looked suspiciously like sleeve bearings on the shaft, but I'm no fan expert. NECX currently has new unopened PR440FX's with SCSI in their "outlet center" for $119, plus $5.95 S/H. They're also running several Dutch auctions on eBay for Intel DK440LX (Dakota) dual PII motherboards (with on-board 7895 and 82557) at $199 each. Quoting the Toshiba Web page: 1.Voltage Regulator Supplied by VXI. P/N 656622-001. You can contact VXI at (503) 652-7300. That worked for me. The Toshiba Web page is: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/issues/97110022.htm I hope you got a heat sink / fan with the second P6, I tried running without, and it lasted about 5 minutes before crashing. A reboot showed only one CPU, until the second had cooled off. These things run HOT, I'm not going to try over-clocking without some major extra cooling. Just wish someone had mentioned to me that I would have needed it instead of making two seperate orders and wasting time (considering I made it clear that my intentions were to use two processors on it). Anyway, I got it yesterday and it works, so I'm happy...
