On one other FreeBSD box I logged into recently, in top I saw a process that was eating up 256Mb in "size", but with only a few hundred Kb in "res". Since the box has 16Mb ram + 64Mb swap I don't see how it could ever get those 256Mb, but there it was, grinning at me from ... the top. I guess that although Java apps under the Blackdown JDK say they need 80Mb, but don't really use that much under normal circumstances. I just hope I won't code any abnormal circumstance :) Kees Jan ============================================== You are only young once, but you can stay immature all your life To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Jan 28 4:37:28 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from hermes.research.kpn.com (hermes.research.kpn.com [139.63.192.8]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E85B7156DD for ; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 04:37:24 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from K.J.Koster@research.kpn.com) Received: from l04.research.kpn.com (l04.research.kpn.com [139.63.192.204]) by research.kpn.com (PMDF V5.2-31 #35196) with ESMTP id <01JL8NARLO2S000HUH@research.kpn.com> for freebsd-java@freebsd.org; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 13:37:21 +0100 Received: by l04.research.kpn.com with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2650.21) id ; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 13:37:21 +0100 Content-return: allowed Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2000 13:37:13 +0100 From: "Koster, K.J." Well, maybe there is a FreeBSD/Java2 initiative, isn't there? Maybe that project should get more attention from FreeBSD developers like us. They could probably need a hand. Or maybe we can build on the work Blackdown/Sun/Inprise provided for Linux. Then there's always Kaffe, and Classpath. Maybe some teams could join forces, and maybe some of us have some spare time to invest in a FreeBSD/Java2 initiative? :) Ernst -- Ernst de Haan Freelance Java Architect "Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" -- Jesus Christ --------------405710F2B0AC57EC2EDD214B Content-Type: text/x-vcard; charset=us-ascii; name="ernst.vcf" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Ernst de Haan Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="ernst.vcf" begin:vcard n:de Haan;Ernst tel;fax:+31 (0)26 3645634 tel;work:+31 (0)26 3623895 x-mozilla-html:FALSE url:http://www.znerd.demon.nl/ org:Jollem adr:;;Rozendaalselaan 35;Velp;GLD;6881 KZ;Netherlands version:2.1 email;internet:ernst@jollem.com title:Java Architect fn:Ernst de Haan end:vcard --------------405710F2B0AC57EC2EDD214B-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Jan 28 14:23:36 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from ns.yogotech.com (ns.yogotech.com [206.127.79.126]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1A4FF15AC3 for ; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 14:23:31 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from nate@yogotech.com) Received: from nomad.yogotech.com (nomad.yogotech.com [206.127.79.115]) by ns.yogotech.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id PAA19546; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 15:23:22 -0700 (MST) (envelope-from nate@nomad.yogotech.com) Received: (from nate@localhost) by nomad.yogotech.com (8.8.8/8.8.8) id PAA05460; Fri, 28 Jan 2000 15:23:22 -0700 (MST) (envelope-from nate) Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2000 15:23:22 -0700 (MST) Message-Id: <200001282223.PAA05460@nomad.yogotech.com> From: Nate Williams MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit To: Ernst de Haan Cc: Roy Lanek , Nate Williams , Haikal Saadh , freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: jdk1.3... I spoke above as the organizer of the FreeBSD/Java effort, and there has been little/no progress on that front for a number of months. And, I don't see anything changing in the near future, with all of the team members being crazy busy, and I'm in the middle of a career change.
