I managed to install the DB successfully. I have not installed a DB yet. WHen I try to start dcba from the oracle account, I get the foll. error: oracle-bsd> dbca & [1] 806 oracle-bsd> dirname: illegal option -- p usage: dirname path arch: not found jre was not found in /../bin//green_threads/jre [1]+ Exit 1 dbca oracle-bsd> ------------------------------------------------- WHat should I check/what couldbe wrong? I tried to install Oracle9i on FreeBSD 4.9 using clues from shadowcom.net . The installation (without database creation) seems to be successful (no error message). however, when I try to connect to the DB (using sqlplus '/ as sysdba'), I get the following error message: ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact I checked my kernel config and it seems correct. Here is an extract of my kernel config: options SYSVSHM #SYSV-style shared memory options SYSVMSG #SYSV-style message queues options SYSVSEM #SYSV-style semaphores options SHMMAXPGS=65536 options SHMMNI=4096 options SHMSEG=4096 options SEMMNS=32000 options SEMMNI=128 options SEMMSL=250 Did someone achieve to install Oracle 9i on FreeBSD 4.9?
