The dc driver isn't doing any DMA in its attach routine that I can easily identify. It should print a NIC address in boot verbose. It would be useful to know if it is getting there. It would also be useful to know if it makes it out of the dc_attach() routine at all. I believe that this dc card also has a miibus attachment to it as well, but I haven't tracked down to see if there's DMA there or not. I suspect not because MII interface control tends to be bit-bangging fun/pain. Problem system is a dual Xeon 2.8Ghz system built on a Tyan Thunder i7520 (S5360) motherboard, 2GB RAM (manufactured by Corsair) and an Adaptec 3940UW (ahc, at least we know that works). >Description: FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE, upon attempts to install on a system built using a Tyan Thunder i7520 (S5360) motherboard from CDROM, hangs when the kernel attempts to probe/attach/initialize atkbd0. FreeBSD 5.2.1-RELEASE does install and run on this same system but lacks support for some of the devices we'd like to use (aside from third party patches/etc that were integrated into 5.3-RELEASE) Kernels built from 5.3-RELEASE source and installed on the target system also hang during probing of atkbd0. We have installed a 5.3-RELEASE kernel with support for ddb and gdb remote debugging and found that the kernel hangs during a memcpy, seen below from a transcript of our gdb session. We don't actually believe that memcpy itself is the problem, but that something earlier in the kernel happens that causes the memcpy to fail. The uname -a output above is from a working 5.3-RELEASE system where we build debugging kernels and run gdb-remote. Since we can't get 5.3-RELEASE to boot, we can't get uname output from our debug target. It looks like by the time we get to atkbd0, something's already amiss and this messes up the movsl at /usr/src/sys/i386/i386/support.s:683 (r. 1.105) We could be wrong though. Enter 'tr' to connect to the remote target with /dev/cuaa0, 'tr /dev/cuaa1' to connect to a different port or 'trf portno' to connect to the remote target with the firewire interface. portno defaults to 5556. Type 'getsyms' after connection to load kld symbols. If you're debugging a local system, you can use 'kldsyms' instead to load the kld symbols. That's a less obnoxious interface. This would leave if (cfg->intpin > 0 && PCI_INTERRUPT_VALID(cfg->intline)) { irq = cfg->intline; resource_list_add(rl, SYS_RES_IRQ, 0, irq, irq, 1); } active. I am having problems installing FreeBSD on my laptop. It is a Toshiba A45-S151with a Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor, 512Mb memory. I am not sure of my device settings. I do know that the PCI bus uses IRQ's 15 and 16. During the installation (verbose logging)when its detecting software it freezes after it displays the following: Pcib0: on pcib0 Pcib0: Device is hardwired to IRQ 16 Found> vendor = 0x8086, DEV=0x3582, REVID= 0x02 Bus=0, SLOT=2, Func=0, class=30-00-00, hdrtype=0x00, mfdev=1 cmdreg=0x0007, statreg=0x0090, casheinsz=0 (dwords) lattimer=0x00 (0ns), mingnt=0x00 (0ns), maxlat=0x00 (0ns) intpin=a, IRQ=16 Powerspec 1 supports DO D1 D3 current D0 mapio: type3, range 32, base 00000000, size27 memory disabled f (freezes here) During the normal installation it displays the following pci0: on PCIb0 (then freezes). With ACPI disabled it diplays pci0: on PCIb0 pci_cfgintr: 0:2 INTA Bios IRQ 10 I have seen similar problems with other models of Toshiba laptops but no solutions. Any help will be appreciated.
