Ik was wondering if you made it work with FreeBSD and what driver did you used. Did you use ndisulator(aka Project Evil) infrastucture driver or did you found a FreeBSD driver that works with this wifi card. Im about to buy 3CRDAG675 and i'm having doubts if i should buy another one from linksys or 3Com. All info apreciated. greetings Novak From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 18 12:22:57 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1334416A41F for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 12:22:57 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from illy.inspace@gmail.com) Received: from wproxy.gmail.com (wproxy.gmail.com [64.233.184.199]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 02B7C43D55 for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 12:22:55 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from illy.inspace@gmail.com) Received: by wproxy.gmail.com with SMTP id i4so351536wra for ; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 05:22:55 -0700 (PDT) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition; b=rJlVhDpjk16Gm3GkvQC7XoVh77nB7xG3XP14LdYxrDC/fRzb4MV33QfkytNe95AWBJLGnpUfKfZ6O/9HiyBSHYQnFghALHs6G02Ywm8syQtes+2nwodDKhFA7hXuCP+Wn6TKOSF8Imlww15un/qPRs7aav8+YGaEekaRC21D9kU= Received: by 10.54.54.43 with SMTP id c43mr1148507wra; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 05:22:55 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.54.80.4 with HTTP; Thu, 18 Aug 2005 05:22:55 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2005 12:22:55 +0000 From: "illy ." I'm having major dramas getting FreeBSD working on my Laptop.=20 It is a Compaq Presario M2000. System specs: CPU - Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor - 1600 MHz Motherboard - Quanta 3091 RAM - 256 MB DDR Disk Drive - ST94019A (37 GB, IDE) Optical Drive - HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4244N Video Adapter - ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M (32 MB) Audio Adapter - Conexant AC-Link Audio I will tell you step by step what I've been through. 1. I could only boot in safe mode in 5.4 - yet when I finished the install it didn't write the boot manager to the mbr. So I tried using a couple of other boot managers (gag, grub) but non of those would install either. 2. I decided to install a minimal 4.11 install. 4.11 would only boot/install disabling sio0. But it worked and installed the FreeBSD Boot manager, which is all I wanted. 3. Then I once again installed 5.4 in safe mode. It worked fine then as the boot manager that 4.11 had put there was still there. Yet I can still only boot in safe mode. Now I know that safe mode disables ACPI, the APIC, ATA and ATAPI DMA, ATA write caching, and all EISA devices. So I figure that it is something here that is my problem. When I boot in to default it gets to=20 ioacpi0 irqs 0-23 on motherboard then freezes, and goes to a blank screen, and the only way out is the power switch. When I boot with ACPI disabled - it gets to the same thing, then it does the same thing. When I add 'debug.acpi.quirks=3D4' into the /boot/loader.conf file. The default boot gets to: Timecounters tick every 10.000 msec Then freezes The Verbose boot gets to: Timecounters tick every 10.000 msec lo0: bpf attached Then freezes. And the ACPI disabled boot gets to: cpu0 on motherboard Then freezes. I have tried adding a couple of other options to the /boot/loader.conf file. Now of which make any difference at all, including: hw.ata.atapi_dma=3D"0" and "1" hint.apci.0.disabled=3D"1" acpi_load=3D"YES" and even telling it that it is Windoze. There are a couple of other options I have added to, but I cant think of them now my head is swimming :s. Some of the outputs are -=20 # vmstat -i interrupt total rate irq0: clk 65946 99 irq1: atkbd0 429 0 irq4: fwohci0 4584 6 irq5: rl0 26 0 irq7: 1 0 stray irq7 1 0 irq8: rtc 84410 127 irq11: ohci0 ohci1 272 0 irq12: psm0 124 0 irq13: npx0 1 0 irq14: ata0 1752 2 irq15: ata1 46 0 Total 157592 238 The dmesg for the safe mode boot is: # dmesg Copyright (c) 1992-2005 The FreeBSD Project. I have searched google, man pages, articles, and anything I can get my hands on, but to no avail. I was going to add apm to the kernel and try that yet, the warning in the man pages scares me: "WARNING! Many, if not most, of the implementations of APM-bios in lap-tops today are buggy. You may be putting your LCD-display and batteries at a risk by using this interface." I cant afford, this it took me nearly a year to save up for this lap-top, and I just cant lose it (I cant eat I'm so poor from buying it). By the way I'm only a newbie (2 months in FreeBSD), yet I'm willing to do what ever it takes. If I haven't placed enough detail here let me know. Anything else I can provide I will. I just really need to get this working. Please Please if anyone could help I would be so incredibly grateful! Sorry for taking so long to reply, school just started and I couldn't find the patch anywhere (it was.. of course, in my home directory :P) I've got a 3com 3CRDAG675 and it works nicely with the atheros driver when I apply Sam Leffler's patch and recompile the kernel. This isn't hard to do, you just need to download ath.patch ( http://blake.prohosting.com/esnet/lanjoe9/freebsd/ath.patch.txt ) and copy it to your /sys/ directory (you need to have the kernel source code installed, btw) and run (as root) patch mem 0xdc800000-0xdc80ffff at device 8.0 on pci0 ath0: mac 5.6 phy 4.1 5ghz radio 3.6 ath0: Ethernet address: 00:0e:6a:7a:91:eb ath0: 11a rates: 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps ath0: 11b rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps ath0: 11g rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps ath0: turbo rates: 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps I've used the 3com 3CRDAG675 in access point mode mostly, and it has quite a good range and transfer rate. Have a nice day Alejandro PS: I know the patch is kind of old, but it was the last one I could find working in non-current kernels, and Sam seems to be a really busy person so I've tried not to bother him. I do have the impression I had a more recent one somewhere... It uses Xorg 6.8.2, and according to the log file, it has a ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (M9) Lf (AGP) chipset. I would like to set up a dual head (not xinerama) configuration, using a TV set as an external display (connected to the S-Video connector). That way I can show movies on the TV screen, while doing normal desktop on the LCD. First, is this possible? Secondly, where do I find a how-to on this. I have searched Google, but haven't found any good ones (or maybe I didn't understand them). Third, and added compilcation; I'm not running startx, X is started from xdm when I log in. Ideally, the TV set should "just work" when I plug in the S-Video cable. Next best would be if the machine detected an attached TV set at boot / X startup time (that way I could just log out and in again after connecting the TV), but if that doesn't work, is there some way I can choose a Xorg config from xdm? -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 20 07:44:50 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D60F116A41F for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 07:44:50 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from krion@voodoo.oberon.net) Received: from voodoo.oberon.net (voodoo.oberon.net [212.118.165.100]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7A7F243D53 for ; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 07:44:50 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from krion@voodoo.oberon.net) Received: from krion by voodoo.oberon.net with local (Exim 4.52 (FreeBSD)) id 1E6O21-00095M-Jl for freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 20 Aug 2005 09:44:45 +0200 Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 09:44:45 +0200 From: Kirill Ponomarew To: freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org Message-ID: <20050820074445.GB34551@voodoo.oberon.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="lrZ03NoBR/3+SXJZ" Content-Disposition: inline X-NCC-Regid: de.oberon X-NIC-HDL: KP869-RIPE Cc: Subject: HP nx9005 and Netgear WG511T X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 07:44:51 -0000 --lrZ03NoBR/3+SXJZ Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline I'm trying to use my WG511T Netgear WiFi NIC on HP nx9005 notebook, but couldn't make it run at all.
