Ctrl-Alt-Backspace will hard-kill an XWindows session. Make sure you've saved all your work, because this will not stop to ask you :-) Ideally, you should use your window manager's Exit or Logout function. If you're using vanilla startx, I think you can right/middle click the desktop or something (haven't used TWM for a long time) to pop up a menu. Finally, you can Ctrl-Alt-F(1-8) to go back to the virtual console which you started X from, and hit Ctrl-C. In addtion to your methods, another way is to type "exit" in the xterm whic= h is labelled as "login" at the top-left corner. All other xterms in the X = Window system are labelled "xterm", not "login". Type "exit" in these xterm= s will just kill the terminal, not the whole X system. = I didn't notice that special label before. = Thank you, = Regards, Xu Qiang From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 18 11:02:21 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 425DA16A4CE for ; Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:02:21 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1FA4043D1F for ; Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:02:21 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3IB2LtX093483 for ; Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:02:21 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3IB2Kif093478 for freebsd-x11@freebsd.org; Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:02:20 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:02:20 GMT Message-Id: <200504181102.j3IB2Kif093478@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:02:21 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. Too big, because the fonts are too big perhaps? When I startx, the twm or fvwm or fvwm2 start with the virtual window corresponding to the fisical one. It means if I go with the mouse against the edges the mouse stops or jumps to a next neighbour window. But if i open xv, just the starting window or the command window (left clicking the picture) are filling almost all the screen area. Not only the fonts appear bigger, but any X application (pics ...), in the same proportion. It looks like a wrong resolution mode. I am trying these ones Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" but seem not to work. Using DisplaySize 320 240 does not change the situation as well. I got my 1280x800 working, I had to hack up the linux 855resolution 0.3 utility, and I used the i855vidctl code as a guide, but in the end, I have 1280x800 . When I get a chance I'll clean it up and maybe submit a port or something, and if I don't, someone bother me until I do. Comment out this line if you want to manage X terminals with xdm DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 and then restart XDM. Remember that comments in app-defaults files begin wi= th a ``!'' character, not the usual ``#''. More strict access controls may = be desired. Look at the example entries in Xaccess, and refer to the xdm(1)= manual page. ----------------------------------------------- I commented the line as suggested in the handbook, and then connected to it= using X-Win32 from M$ Windows, to get the following error: = ???????????????????????????????????????????????????
