Unfortunately, at least in Australia, this site has fairly poor connectivity - I can download OOo at 75kBps if I am really lucky. Often it's half that. Since OOo is one of the largest distfiles in ports (it's the largest in my distfile collection by a significant margin), this is somewhat annoying. Would it be possible to mirror OOo in a few additional sites? Alternatively, would it be possible to increase the TCP sendspace on ooopackages.good-day.net? Studying some tcpdump output suggests that the sendspace is currently about 52kB and my downloads are hitting the RTT/window limits (not helped by a lossy Internet connection that my ISP refuses to correct). --=20 Peter Jeremy --DKU6Jbt7q3WqK7+M Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.12 (FreeBSD) iEYEARECAAYFAkqvRGwACgkQ/opHv/APuIfOOwCgp/zRecyzdmH+hXVSnbJ5usr2 CG8Ani0EJSFzeAtgz1ap2zE3AsTQtW64 =AECx -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --DKU6Jbt7q3WqK7+M-- From owner-freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Sep 16 04:18:26 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-openoffice@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B420106566B for ; Wed, 16 Sep 2009 04:18:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ws@au.dyndns.ws) Received: from ipmail01.adl6.internode.on.net (ipmail01.adl6.internode.on.net [203.16.214.146]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 94B0F8FC0C for ; Wed, 16 Sep 2009 04:18:25 +0000 (UTC) X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Filtered: true X-IronPort-Anti-Spam-Result: AukAAOYCsEqWZWdv/2dsb2JhbAAI3laEFwWBVmU X-IronPort-AV: E=Sophos;i="4.44,394,1249223400"; d="scan'208";a="416014923" Received: from ppp103-111.static.internode.on.net (HELO [192.168.1.144]) ([150.101.103.111]) by ipmail01.adl6.internode.on.net with ESMTP; 16 Sep 2009 13:48:21 +0930 From: Wayne Sierke To: Peter Jeremy In-Reply-To: <20090915073820.GB48679@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> References: <20090915073820.GB48679@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> Content-Type: text/plain Date: Wed, 16 Sep 2009 13:48:18 +0930 Message-Id: <1253074698.97590.92298.camel@predator-ii.buffyverse> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Evolution 2.26.3 FreeBSD GNOME Team Port Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: freebsd-openoffice@freebsd.org Subject: Re: OOo source code accessibility X-BeenThere: freebsd-openoffice@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting OpenOffice to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 16 Sep 2009 04:18:26 -0000 Peter, On Tue, 2009-09-15 at 17:38 +1000, Peter Jeremy wrote: > Currently, source code for OOo is only available at > ooopackages.good-day.net. Just tried it via Internode: %fetch "ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/sources/OOo_DEV300_m58_source.tar.bz2" OOo_DEV300_m58_source.tar.bz2 7% of 415 MB 183 kBps 35m31s^C fetch: transfer interrupted ^C %fetch "http://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/sources/OOo_DEV300_m58_source.tar.bz2" OOo_DEV300_m58_source.tar.bz2 12% of 415 MB 191 kBps 32m33s^C fetch: transfer interrupted The http transfer peaked at >300kBps (my DSL speed). These figures are about what I recall as being typical for ooopackages.good-day.net. I suspect that the speeds you're seeing are probably more to do with your ISP's connectivity. > Would it be possible to mirror OOo in a few additional sites? It's a shame my uplink speed (~600kbps) isn't better. I could make my downloads available to you which I'd be happy to do since I can do that without it impacting on my data allowance. It's also a shame that Internode doesn't mirror the openoffice sources since that would not only save me 400MB+ of download on my allowance, it would also likely provide a better download source for others within Australia. You didn't say which version you're interested in. I sometimes manage to find source tarballs on the Internode mirror which have been repackaged in some Linux distribution or other. I have no idea why they don't just use the original. So for example if it's the 3.1 release that you're interested in it could well be that this file (407253524 bytes): http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/archlinux/other/openoffice/openoffice-base-OOO310_m19.tar.bz2 is a repackaged tarball of the m19 sources: %cat /usr/ports/editors/openoffice.org-3/distinfo | grep 'SIZE.*m19' SIZE (openoffice.org3/OOo_OOO310_m19_source.tar.bz2) = 407469121 so if you get a good speed from the Internode mirror and you're happy to do the messing around needed to have the port compile using this tarball then that might be one short-term option for you. I'm actually downloading this one now just to check (out of sheer curiosity since I actually use -dev) so if you're interested and would like confirmation let me know. > Alternatively, would it be possible to increase the TCP sendspace on > ooopackages.good-day.net? Given the problems you've indicated with your ISP (Optus?) I have to admit being mystified by your persistence in staying with them.
