The disk has an MBR in block 0 and a forgotten BSD label (dangerously dedicated) in block 1. 8.x sensibly ignores one of them; unfortunately it ignores the MBR, not the unwanted BSD label. The solution is: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/da0 seek=1 count=1 From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jan 16 21:21:23 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 262A8106564A for ; Sun, 16 Jan 2011 21:21:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@c2i.net) Received: from swip.net (mailfe04.c2i.net [212.247.154.98]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 72F8A8FC17 for ; Sun, 16 Jan 2011 21:21:22 +0000 (UTC) X-Cloudmark-Score: 0.000000 [] X-Cloudmark-Analysis: v=1.1 cv=jVx+AExU5EFhK37+rVAQq6jxd4lXLYohjT2gqEoUpuc= c=1 sm=1 a=fxNkpVml3AcA:10 a=8nJEP1OIZ-IA:10 a=CL8lFSKtTFcA:10 a=i9M/sDlu2rpZ9XS819oYzg==:17 a=qf1PqZMHQasWD5LbTdUA:9 a=sU_hqj7LUDf8YDrGoTnVO_PcIUEA:4 a=wPNLvfGTeEIA:10 a=i9M/sDlu2rpZ9XS819oYzg==:117 Received: from [188.126.198.129] (account mc467741@c2i.net HELO laptop002.hselasky.homeunix.org) by mailfe04.swip.net (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 5.2.19) with ESMTPA id 74377066; Sun, 16 Jan 2011 22:21:20 +0100 From: Hans Petter Selasky To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2011 22:21:21 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.13.5 (FreeBSD/8.2-PRERELEASE; KDE/4.4.5; amd64; ; ) References: <20110116152617.3977.qmail@ts1.inter7.jp> In-Reply-To: <20110116152617.3977.qmail@ts1.inter7.jp> X-Face: +~\`s("[*|O,="7?X@L.elg*F"OA\I/3%^p8g?ab%RN'(; _IjlA: hGE..Ew, XAQ*o#\/M~SC=S1-f9{EzRfT'|Hhll5Q]ha5Bt-s|oTlKMusi:1e[wJl}kd}GR Z0adGx-x_0zGbZj'e(Y[(UNle~)8CQWXW@:DX+9)_YlB[tIccCPN$7/L' MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <201101162221.21691.hselasky@c2i.net> Cc: Subject: Re: FreeBSD hangs while booting with USB legacy support off X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2011 21:21:23 -0000 On Sunday 16 January 2011 16:26:17 Norihiko Murase wrote: > Mr. Hans Petter Selasky, > > Thank you very much for your comment! > > On Sunday 16 Jan 2011 12:47:26 +0100 Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > > We currently don't have the USB 3.0 code in place to switch off the > > legacy mode during bootup. It is basically a no-op unless someone puts 'options USB_HOST_ALIGN 32' into kernel config file. This is necessary for MIPS based RouterStation Pro board (maybe other MIPS based boards as well, no idea), so it would make maintenance/development a bit easier... an option in config file is for me better than local patch :) If there is another, better sollution for this problem, I would like to know (and test). You need to add a check if host align is zero, which happens when building the modules. Milan: Your patch is in the queue and not forgotten. I'm currently waiting for Andrew to acknowledge some other patches, which has taken a couple of days. Hi, You need to change the way you buffer the data. FreeBSD does not queue more= =20 than 2 URB's at any time, and the turnaround time varies from 1ms to 125us = due=20 to hardware IRQ restrictions. Linux queues up all it can get, which leads t= o=20 other kind of problems. The current internal buffer limit is 16Kbyte 8000=20 times per second which gives a MAX of 128 MByte/second. In general during hardware design: 1) Avoid short packets. 2) Make sure transfer buffers are matched between host and device. =46rom my experience it is very possible to reach +30Mbyte/second with LibU= SB=20 under FreeBSD 8.2+, given the buffering is optimal for the kernel. Hint: The libusb20 API has features to transfer multi-short packets in a mo= re=20 optimised way, which are not exposed in the libusb10 API. >=20 > It is using libusb-1.0 with the async API in a threaded app. I spawn a > thread which sites in the following loop: >=20 =2D-HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jan 22 13:36:43 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 096AF106564A; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 13:36:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hselasky@c2i.net) Received: from swip.net (mailfe06.c2i.net [212.247.154.162]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 63D818FC0C; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 13:36:42 +0000 (UTC) X-Cloudmark-Score: 0.000000 [] X-Cloudmark-Analysis: v=1.1 cv=zd3JlQdM8pCLPD3aEDzo7z+tvxPivUmenXkN4Bflhm0= c=1 sm=1 a=yobaRY5IM1IA:10 a=8nJEP1OIZ-IA:10 a=CL8lFSKtTFcA:10 a=i9M/sDlu2rpZ9XS819oYzg==:17 a=qPRrsUOdtSuulLk6DZoA:9 a=Y4boc6Af57Zk-ZjsyV0A:7 a=8sO1aZ0r6zf1TJjdLkqwqJb5oPUA:4 a=wPNLvfGTeEIA:10 a=i9M/sDlu2rpZ9XS819oYzg==:117 Received: from [188.126.198.129] (account mc467741@c2i.net HELO laptop002.hselasky.homeunix.org) by mailfe06.swip.net (CommuniGate Pro SMTP 5.2.19) with ESMTPA id 77090050; Sat, 22 Jan 2011 14:36:40 +0100 From: Hans Petter Selasky To: Thiemo Nordenholz Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2011 14:36:47 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.13.5 (FreeBSD/8.2-PRERELEASE; KDE/4.4.5; amd64; ; ) References: <201101211348.p0LDmruf023672@red.freebsd.org> <201101221133.32084.hselasky@c2i.net> <20110122121704.GA12164@mygiea.ham01.thiemo.net> In-Reply-To: <20110122121704.GA12164@mygiea.ham01.thiemo.net> X-Face: *nPdTl_}RuAI6^PVpA02T?$%Xa^>@hE0uyUIoiha$pC:9TVgl.Oq, NwSZ4V"|LR.+tj}g5 %V,x^qOs~mnU3]Gn; cQLv&.N>TrxmSFf+p6(30a/{)KUU!s}w\IhQBj}[g}bj0I3^glmC( :AuzV9:.hESm-x4h240C`9=w MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <201101221436.47183.hselasky@c2i.net> Cc: freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org, freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Subject: Re: usb/154192: In Garmin Oregon GPS, only the first umass device is visible since upgrade of 9.0-current X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2011 13:36:43 -0000 On Saturday 22 January 2011 13:17:04 Thiemo Nordenholz wrote: > > Try to upgrade USB code to the latest.
