I'm Luca and I'm trying to write a kind of driver for USB SMARTCARD Reader on FreeBSD 8.2-STABLE. The approach adopted is to use libusb20, but I've some problem using interrupt end point... I successfully implemented a find_device() routine scanning all device and it works well. Then I want to use all 3 endpoints provided by this calls of devices: 1 BULK OUT endpoint (to send messages) 1 BULK IN endpoint (to read replies) 1 IRQ IN endpoint (to read the change of the slot status) I have no problem to open BULK endpoints, but the IRQ endpoint open fails. The procedure I follow is: libusb20_dev_open( pdev, 32 ) libusb20_dev_set_config_index( pdev, 0) bin_ep = libusb20_tr_get_pointer( pdev, 0 ); libusb20_tr_open( bin_ep, 4096, 1, bin_ep_num ); bout_ep = libusb20_tr_get_pointer( pdev, 1 ); libusb20_tr_open( bout_ep, 4096, 1, bout_ep_num ); irq_ep = libusb20_tr_get_pointer( pdev, 2 ); libusb20_tr_open( irq_ep, 4096, 1, irq_ep_num ); The last open fails and I don't understand why. LIBUSB20 error code is -2 (LIBUSB20_ERROR_INVALID_PARAM) and errno is 22 (EINVAL). The smartcard reader devices has 1 configuration, 1 interface and 3 endpoints. These data are confirmed by my find_device routine and by usbconfig utility. The irq ep is the number 2 and the unique interface has bNumEndpoints = 0x0003. Scanning the source code, I guess the error code comes form the ioctl( USB_FS_OPEN ) u.popen->ep_index >= f->fs_ep_max Am I missing some initialization? Should I configure something else? Any help is really appreciated! Thanks in advance Luca PS There is some examples of usage of libusb20? I read usbconfig source code and it's a great source of information, but I didn't found examples about transfers... The old box had some RocketPort PCI cards and a 16 port USB to serial adapter. I moved the USB to serial device to the 8.1 box and added another 8 port USB to serial adapter. I moved the 16 port box without a reboot, and then added the 8 port box. I started setting up conserver (console server software) with the new device names, and then decided perhaps a reboot to verify the device names "stuck" across reboots was in order. Sure enough, on reboot the 8 port device preceded the 16 port - meaning my /dev/ttyU0 moved from being the first port on the 16 port box to being the first port on the 8 port box. Is there anything I can do to "lock" these port assignments? I suspect that on a reboot the order will stay the same, but if someone flips the ports around or unplugs either of these while the box is up all my console mappings will get scrambled. Does anyone know a project or library that use libusb20 that I could use as example? If HPS agree, I want to use the experience I'm collecting to improve documentation or to write examples and/or a tutorial. thanks again Regards, Luca On 05/17/11 11:33, Luca Pizzamiglio wrote: > On 05/17/11 11:22, Hans Petter Selasky wrote: >> On Monday 16 May 2011 16:28:55 Luca Pizzamiglio wrote: >>> libusb20_dev_open( pdev, 32 ) >>> libusb20_dev_set_config_index( pdev, 0) >>> bin_ep = libusb20_tr_get_pointer( pdev, 0 ); >>> libusb20_tr_open( bin_ep, 4096, 1, bin_ep_num ); >>> bout_ep = libusb20_tr_get_pointer( pdev, 1 ); >>> libusb20_tr_open( bout_ep, 4096, 1, bout_ep_num ); >>> irq_ep = libusb20_tr_get_pointer( pdev, 2 ); >>> libusb20_tr_open( irq_ep, 4096, 1, irq_ep_num ); >> >> What is the value of irq_ep_num ? >> >> --HPS > > irq_ep_num is 2 and the device has 3 end points (confirmed also by > usbconfig). > > the device is ugen2.2 then the output of ls /dev/usb/2.2* is > /dev/usb/2.2.0 /dev/usb/2.2.1 /dev/usb/2.2.2 /dev/usb/2.2.3 > > Regards, > > Luca > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-usb@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-usb > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-usb-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 17 16:49:49 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 856211065675 for ; Tue, 17 May 2011 16:49:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from chris@vindaloo.com) Received: from mta4.srv.hcvlny.cv.net (mta4.srv.hcvlny.cv.net [167.206.4.199]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 491FA8FC1D for ; Tue, 17 May 2011 16:49:49 +0000 (UTC) Received: from corellia.vindaloo.com (ool-182c0165.dyn.optonline.net [24.44.1.101]) by mta4.srv.hcvlny.cv.net (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-8.04 (built Feb 28 2007)) with ESMTP id <0LLC00JJZLCFVOS0@mta4.srv.hcvlny.cv.net> for freebsd-usb@freebsd.org; Tue, 17 May 2011 12:19:27 -0400 (EDT) Received: from hadar.vindaloo.com (hadar.vindaloo.com [172.24.145.72]) (using TLSv1 with cipher AES128-SHA (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by corellia.vindaloo.com (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 0F34228460; Tue, 17 May 2011 12:19:27 -0400 (EDT) Date: Tue, 17 May 2011 12:19:25 -0400 From: Christopher Hilton In-reply-to: <201105171118.43267.hselasky@c2i.net> To: Hans Petter Selasky Message-id: <6CFC0E04-AF60-4983-A6FA-0AEC3CFAF75A@vindaloo.com> MIME-version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.1084) Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT References: <201105171118.43267.hselasky@c2i.net> Cc: Charles Sprickman , freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Subject: Re: usb serial port device naming X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 17 May 2011 16:49:49 -0000 On May 17, 2011, at 5:18 AM, Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > > Hi, > > If you run 8-stable, there is some information you can lookup via sysctls of > the USB devices, which tells you which port belongs to which device. > > Use the serial number to identify your device, if your device has such a > value. > > usbconfig -d X.Y dump_device_desc > Are you suggesting that one could use this information to config devd and perhaps automatically create a link to the correct port at USB attach time? I hadn't spotted that SCAN, the OPTIONS in /usr/ports/print/hplip/Makefile is not springing up an interactive choice menu, Maybe I'll tyr yo improve it like a working interactive Makefile with OPTIONS in eg comms/hylafax/Makefile cd /usr/ports/print/hplip && \ make WITH_SCAN=YES WITH_XSANE=YES all install now does causes scanimage to see a scanner :-) scanimage -L device `hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_2050_J510_series?serial=CN09721HXY05D1' is a Hewlett-Packard Deskjet_2050_J510_series all-in-one But with /var/log/messages: scanimage: scan/sane/io.c 53: dBus Connection Error (Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory)! (even after I've even done chmod 777 /var/run/dbus ) So my xsane still doesnt work yet. pkg_info -qW /usr/local/lib/sane/libsane-hpaio.so hplip-3.11.1 (you have .3 from current) grep hpaio /usr/local/etc/sane.d/dll.conf hpaio sane-find-scanner -q found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [HP], product=0x8711 [Deskjet 2050 J510 series]) at libusb:/dev/usb:/dev/ugen1.2 Thanks, Julian -- Julian Stacey, BSD Unix Linux C Sys Eng Consultants Munich http://berklix.com Mail plain text; Not quoted-printable, Not HTML, Not base 64. We have a USB flash device in our system. =20 The issue is, when the system panics, it gets into the uni-processor mode, and while processing that panic, scsi layer shutdown handler (dashutdown())is called to issue the SYNCHRONIZE_CACHE command to the device. This command is never completed and the system hangs. =20 Details: =20 When the system panics, it gets into the uniprocessor mode and the usb_proc is never scheduled to complete the transfer which was enqueued while executing the SYNCHRONIZE_CACHE command sent by xpt_action() in the below loop. After sending(enqueuing xfer) the command, current process waits in a loop for the command to complete with a very large timeout value.=20 =20 Loop in xpt_polled_action() called by dashutdown(): =20 if (timeout !=3D 0) { xpt_action(start_ccb); while(--timeout > 0) { (*(sim->sim_poll))(sim); camisr_runqueue(&sim->sim_doneq); if ((start_ccb->ccb_h.status & CAM_STATUS_MASK) !=3D CAM_REQ_INPROG) break; DELAY(1000); } In FreeBSD 8 USB driver, commands are asynchronously sent from umass layer onto the wire, in other words, multiple threads are involved before the command is sent from the umass layer all the way to the wire. Since the usb_proc is not scheduled current process keeps waiting for the command to complete, hence the hang. =20 Is this a known issue? If yes, is there a fix available? Are there any plans of adding a synchronous path to send the command to the device? =20 Any information regarding this issue is much appreciated. =20 Thanks in advance, Vishal =20 From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Thu May 19 21:12:50 2011 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B17271065672 for ;
