The FLAC updates are incomplete, because the FLAC include files appear to have moved into /usr/local/include/FLAC (the FLAC part is new), and vlc misses other stuff. >How-To-Repeat: Update ports tree, try to update all ports, see vlc build fail with a missing stream_decoder.h include file when building its FLAC plugin. That's because in multimedia/gstreamer-plugins/Makefile.common there are shlib version still hardcoded on several LIB_DEPENDS lines. Maybe not all of them could be simply removed (e.g. xml2.5 for textproc/libxml2), but I guess that it could be possible for most of them. There is a change in 1.3.0's flac.pc that causes pkg-config --cflags to produce a different result. The idea was always that applications should include FLAC's headers like this #include as in the examples and other Xiph code. However, the old pkg-config specs returned -I/usr/local/include/FLAC, so if you relied on pkg-config and didn't run into an assert.h clash, then plain also worked. This was corrected in 1.3.0: $ pkg-config --cflags flac -I/usr/local/include Although FLAC 1.3.0 is the first release after almost six years, and the use of symbol visibility has caused a lot of superficial differences in the libraries, there haven't been any significant changes in the documented API. -- Christian "naddy" Weisgerber naddy@mips.inka.de From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 11 13:44:21 2013 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A3848775; Tue, 11 Jun 2013 13:44:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from florent@peterschmitt.fr) Received: from peterschmitt.fr (peterschmitt.fr [5.135.177.31]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E0D913C8; Tue, 11 Jun 2013 13:44:21 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [172.29.180.39] (unknown [194.214.114.46]) by peterschmitt.fr (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id A1DF1B5E4; Tue, 11 Jun 2013 15:44:17 +0200 (CEST) Message-ID: <51B72A06.6040709@peterschmitt.fr> Date: Tue, 11 Jun 2013 15:45:42 +0200 From: Florent Peterschmitt User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20130518 Icedove/17.0.5 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: VLC - latency at volume change X-Enigmail-Version: 1.5.1 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="----enig2REDGSCUJDVFAPBTGKCET" Cc: ports@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 11 Jun 2013 13:44:21 -0000 This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 4880 and 3156) ------enig2REDGSCUJDVFAPBTGKCET Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, I've not found any bug report about that kind of problem and I prefer to send this both on -multimedia and -ports, because I don't know where the problem can be. It takes one to three seconds to VLC to change volume, it's a big latency. There was a similar bug in VLC's bugtracker for version 1.2, and is solved now. Which the sound works for a while lets say a few hours. When I had Linux on the System Alsa did very similar where the sound works and then doesnt work usually requiring to restart the app that was using sound. On FreeBSD the sound works after a while it will then produce a buzzing noise when attempt to play anything that uses sound. FreeBSD I am running on is FreeBSD MrUNIXman 9.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE #0: Tue Jun 11 22:43:50 BST 2013 root@MrUNIXman:/sys/amd64/compile/MrUNIXman amd64 I use a my own compiled kernel with the sound modules loaded My Sound Card pci4: at device 1.0 (no driver attached) pcm0: port 0xec00-0xec3f irq 22 at device 1.0 on pci4 pcm0: pcm0: Modules I use Id Refs Address Size Name 1 12 0xffffffff80200000 1273cd0 kernel 2 2 0xffffffff81474000 76ca0 sound.ko 6 1 0xffffffff8162f000 4ce9 snd_es137x.ko I took 4 and 5 out as that refers to X related stuff. I have noticed on the Buzz when the sound card makes this sound. I am hoping to film it next time and upload it to youtube. I found Unloading the snd_es137x module and reloading seems to give sound back. I am beginning to wonder if this is some sort of Bug may involve with use of multiple channels on sound card being used. I believe the Older FreeBSD I never seen this problem before and I had the same sound card back then. I have noticed on NetBSD only 1 app can use the sound card at time and never suffered this problem. If I didnt recompile the kernel only way to solve this was to probley reboot the system.
