Hubbard" Sender: owner-freebsd-announce@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk [Posted on behalf of Kevin Eliuk] Hello, With the joined efforts of Joerg Wunsch, Annelise Anderson, Marty Leisner, and myself, Brian Kernighan has given the approval to include into distribution a Learn program witten by him and Michael Lesk. This program is circa 1979, therefore needing a lot of work to get it up to present in terms of content as well as making it work effectively into FreeBSD. "Kernighan's purpose in creating the program was, ac- cording to those files, to provide direct interaction with the unix system. From the little I've used it, "learn" seems to be a systematic and orderly way to learn unix basics from a user point of view, and it might be worthwhile to provide such a utility." Annelise Anderson Help is needed! The current src of 'learn' is available via CVSup. Just put learn-all release=cvs in your supfile, if you are interested in using it in it's cur- rent form and/or would like to contribute to its Lessons. A README in the learn directory as well as learn.ms will give you an overview of the program. Any questions can be sent to "learners@FreeBSD.org". -- From owner-freebsd-announce Fri Jul 25 16:02:45 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id QAA29884 for freebsd-announce-outgoing; Fri, 25 Jul 1997 16:02:45 -0700 (PDT) Received: from time.cdrom.com (jkh@time.cdrom.com [204.216.27.226]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id QAA29877 for ; Fri, 25 Jul 1997 16:02:40 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from jkh@localhost) by time.cdrom.com (8.8.6/8.6.9) id QAA19671 for announce@freebsd.org; Fri, 25 Jul 1997 16:02:34 -0700 (PDT) Date: Fri, 25 Jul 1997 16:02:34 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jordan K. To access: $ ftp andrsn.stanford.edu To login type "ftp" Use your email address as your password Type "cd pub/learn" Type "get learn.tar.gz" Type "bye" after downloading to log out It is recommended you untar the tar file in your home directory (tar xzf learn.tar.gz). It creates the the directory ~/learn and its sub-directories. A README in that directory will tell you the rest. I would like to offer my thanks to Annelise for making available Her site.
