But, when I use splay to play WAVE-files it sounds better, but still not good.. Playing a long WAVE-file, it sounds bad in the start, but after a few seconds, it plays perfect. In the start it sounds like there is something left from the previous sound I have played.. Strange, IMHO. > > > What could cause this error? If I change the picture size in vic, small/normal back and forth, it flashes quickly with one frame, and then go black again. Strange, I think. Is there anybody in this group who has had similar exprience with vic and quickcam? Please help.. I though it maybe could have something to do with mrouted. I don't know how to configure mrouted, anyone could maybe help me with that, if that's what causing the problem? And, is there any other program to just view the quickcam? I think the first step should be to try something that gets moving pictures from the camera. Is there another videoconferencing program that don't use mbone? Mine worked right off the bat. Try to avoid changing the settings before turning on transmit. It does slow down the psystem but you can eventually get it changed. Also, I found that 4 bit mode didn't quite work properly. > I though it maybe could have something to do with mrouted. You need to determine if you: a) Have a multicast-supported adapter. run `ifconfig ed0' replacing ed0 with your network interface. You should see the MULTICAST flag. b) See if your network requires the use of mbone. Some have been set up with ``native'' multicast which works without any additional modification. I don't know if we've gone through that of this or not .. :-) > And, is there any other program to just view the quickcam? The only question I have is, to what extent does FreeBSD 2.2.1 and 3.0-current support listening to the radio with WinCast/TV Stereo Sound with FM Radio Sound? Being a graduate student, I am naturaly quite the cheap-skate, but seeing that I graduate soon and have a job lined up, and am still using this horrible sounding Grundig radio made in the 70's, I am wondering wether it would be worth it to spend the extra $20 for the FM radio receiver feature. Is there a program like fxtv that I could use to listen to FM radio with this card? Along the same lines, just wondering.. Does FreeBSD/fxtv actualy properly suport stereo and dbx decoding or would I be wasting my money if I bought a card that included this feature? Last question.. Coming out of the wincast TV I gather is line level audio. How weak is it?? I won't be getting my GUS MAX for another month. Is it strong enough that I can amplify it with my multimedia speakers/amplifier? I suppose since it's line level audio, I won't be able to plug headphones into it and get acceptable audio levels though, right? Thanks! I've rolled in a few things for PAL along with a PAL-related patch from Richard Tobin , but as I don't have access to a PAL signal or a WinTV, I'm not sure how much I can help. As far as I know, no-one's really beat on the PAL side of the system yet. Maybe Richard or someone else on the list in Europe can give some advice. There really isn't much in fxtv that's tuner-type/-mode specific, so my first guess is it might be driver-related. But to try and nail it down, try these things: 1) In fxtv when you can hear the audio, play with the appearance controls (Input->Appearance) and see if that changes anything. 2) Try running in a different color depth ("startx -- -bpp 8" [or 16, etc.]) and see if that makes a difference. 3) Startup fxtv with startup debugs on "fxtv -debug startup" If the selected video mode says it supports direct video, run with it disabled ("fxtv -disableDirectV"). 4) If the previous doesn't work, or if it didn't say you were using direct video anyway, put a printf at the top of the TVSCREENNewFrameHdlr routine to see if its getting called. Hope this helps you track it down.
