Well, it is a pity about the lack of ftp access. Trying to download off the Web-Page tends to be *very* slow compared to ftp for some reason. And I've just tried the ftp site listed only to time out... Maybe I'll wait a week or 2 when the rush stops. The FreeBSD project has no publically available ftp sites. The people who sponsor ftp.freebsd.org happen to allow FreeBSD's use of things, but there is no 'public' place where any developer can stick things for download. We rely on outside support for ftp resources (which doesn't always work well as noted by the ftp site being down...) And it is likely to do that for a while :/ The VAX that runs ftp.luth.se is currently slightly ill (it doesn't boot), and soon they will cut the power for the computer hall for rebuilds. For a good picture of it follow http://www.ludd.luth.se/gallery/ludd1/1/ftp.luth.se_mark_IV-4.jpg and you will know that it won't easily be moved or supplied with power and cooling :) When all the vacations are over and the school starts again someone will kick it and apply liberal amounts of contact spray and all should be well again. -- regards/ Joakim To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Tue Jul 28 07:23:56 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id HAA17783 for freebsd-java-outgoing; Tue, 28 Jul 1998 07:23:56 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from bf.mbn.or.jp (bf.mbn.or.jp [202.217.0.48]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id HAA17774 for ; Tue, 28 Jul 1998 07:23:50 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from funa@bf.mbn.or.jp) Received: from FUNA by bf.mbn.or.jp (8.8.8+2.7Wbeta7/bf.mbn.or.jp-1.1u) with SMTP id XAA23634 for ; Tue, 28 Jul 1998 23:23:13 +0900 (JST) Message-ID: <001501bdba33$e4d20730$ea04d9ca@FUNA.mbn.or.jp> Reply-To: "funato kenzaburo" From: "funato kenzaburo" To: "freebsd JAVA" Subject: mailing list please Date: Tue, 28 Jul 1998 23:27:27 +0900 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0010_01BDBA7F.4878A140" X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.2106.4 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.2106.4 Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0010_01BDBA7F.4878A140 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="shift_jis" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit help ------=_NextPart_000_0010_01BDBA7F.4878A140 Content-Type: text/html; charset="shift_jis" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I've had trouble running Java Workshop and ICQ on our workstations. jws just sits there waiting for something, and ICQ won't connect. I have tried all sorts of things to get it weorking, but have always been puzzled, because it works on my home machine, and on our server! That's what I thought, but then I realized that I had never tried from the console, only trough my workstation X server. By default, the display variable is set to ":0.0", which is usually fine. But, when setting the DISPLAY variable to something more specific than :0.0, like localhost:0.0 or hostname:0.0, ICQ and JavaWorkshop suddenly start working! Is this a well knows fact? I have never seen anything like it before, anyway... Is it just for me this is happening? If not, I think it shall be documented on www.freebsd.org/java/. Anyway, I'm happy now! :-) Thanks, for all your work with the jdk! If you're running an older version of -current this is a known bug that was fixed recently. Local 'sockets' were broken, but remote ones weren't. If this is the case it's not a Java problems but instead a FreeBSD problem that can be fixed by upgrading your system.
