Did you compile a custom kernel with PCCARD support? If not, it certainly won't recognize your cards. Also, the PCCARD support in 2.2.6 is better yet (more drivers, more robust, etc..), so I recommend upgrading to it. However, it also requires building a custom kernel, but a sample config file is given in 2.2.6. I was never able to get the ayuto-detect of the cable type to work, so i just ran the 3com dos (shudder) config program and hard set it to coax. Now I need to make it work with twisted pair, and it won;t. It works fine under DOS if I set the type to twsited pair, or coax. It only works under FreeBSD if I hard set it to coax. Nothing seems to make it work for twisted pair wt FreeBSD. I have tried both the twisted pair, and the auto detect setings. I am runing 2.2-STABLE with the PAO patches. The device confugres as ep0. What is interesting is that the boot message *alwats* says it configured for twisted pais, at least as I read it. Here is an example: Apr 10 14:04:25 polar /kernel: ep0 not found at 0x300 Apr 10 14:04:27 polar /kernel: ep0: utp/bnc[*UTP*] address 00:20:af:c7:2d:af Apr 15 12:08:36 polar /kernel: ep0 not found at 0x300 Apr 15 12:08:38 polar /kernel: ep0: utp/bnc[*UTP*] address 00:20:af:c7:2d:af Again, I get this message no matter howthe card is configured, but if I hard set it to coax then that wors. Can anyone sugest how to make this work? I have promised to solve a problem at work with this machine, and I am trying to show how usable FreeBSD is. Try messing with the link flags. ie: # ifconfig ep0 -link0 link1 *OR* # ifconfig ep0 link0 -link1 One or the other should work. (Look at the example in /etc/pccard.conf). Yep, RSN I'll fix it by merging in the code I just committed to -current. Unfortunately, I lost my laptop, and the last 2 committs to the code that were made to the pccard daemon made things worse. I know have a laptop again and I'm running the code in -current on my -stable box and haven't been able to break it. I think that two easy userland solutions are available. These are not essencial, but I think these solutions are effective. 1. After the failure of xxx_probe() with I/O addresses specified by CIS because of resouce allocation failure, retries it again with dynamic I/O address allocation. 2. Disable static I/O address allocation for wdc driver. I think the former is better solution. -- HOSOKAWA, Tatsumi Network Technology Center Keio University hosokawa@ntc.keio.ac.jp To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Thu Apr 23 16:30:29 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id QAA18425 for freebsd-mobile-outgoing; Thu, 23 Apr 1998 16:30:29 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from afs.ntc.mita.keio.ac.jp (afs.ntc.mita.keio.ac.jp [131.113.212.3]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id QAA18418 for ; Thu, 23 Apr 1998 16:30:24 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from hosokawa@ntc.keio.ac.jp) Received: (from hosokawa@localhost) by afs.ntc.mita.keio.ac.jp (8.8.8+2.7Wbeta7/3.6Wbeta6-ntc_mailserver1.03) id IAA04596; Fri, 24 Apr 1998 08:30:14 +0900 (JST) Date: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 08:30:14 +0900 (JST) Message-Id: <199804232330.IAA04596@afs.ntc.mita.keio.ac.jp> To: gmarco@giovannelli.it Cc: mobile@FreeBSD.ORG, hosokawa@ntc.keio.ac.jp Subject: Re: ATA CF In-Reply-To: Your message of "Fri, 24 Apr 1998 00:27:10 +0000". <353FDC5E.FB278302@giovannelli.it> From: hosokawa@ntc.keio.ac.jp (HOSOKAWA Tatsumi) X-Mailer: mnews [version 1.20] 1996-12/08(Sun) Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org In article <353FDC5E.FB278302@giovannelli.it> gmarco@giovannelli.it writes: >> Also I think there are not so much laptops that has two ide >> interfaces... I couldn't find a pao specific mailing list, so I hope someone here can help answer my question. Occasionally I get the following error messages: wd0: interrupt timeout: followed by: wd0: status 50 error 0 or wd0: status 58 error 0 or wd0: status 58 error 1 It sounds like the disk is spinning down but is immediately woken up again by the OS trying to write something. I get these messages both with apm turned on and off. Does this mean something is wrong with my hard drive? Or is there a configuration parameter I can tweak? The correct solution is to generalise the allocation of I/O resources for pccards such that they are dynamically sought and allocated. Using the CIS tuples in the card is IMHO an error. Tatsumi-san - I will be in Japan from May 2nd to about the 16th or so. I would very much like to meet with you and discuss these and other related issues at considerable length, perhaps also with other PAO contributors if any are interested. Is this possible? If anyone else wants to participate, please contact me off the list over the next few days and I will try to coordinate some meetings. -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Fri Apr 24 12:58:32 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id MAA14823 for freebsd-mobile-outgoing; Fri, 24 Apr 1998 12:58:32 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from horton.iaces.com (horton.iaces.com [204.147.87.98]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id MAA14813 for ; Fri, 24 Apr 1998 12:58:27 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from proot@horton.iaces.com) Received: (from proot@localhost) by horton.iaces.com (8.8.7/8.8.7) id OAA21741 for mobile@freebsd.org; Fri, 24 Apr 1998 14:58:21 -0500 (CDT) From: "Paul T. You can activate this using option "-b" to the boot blocks. It is smartest to compile a font into your kernel (See LINT), but not mandatory, but apart from the cursor you will see nothing on the screen until you load a font. I have been using this code for a week or two now, and am *very* happy to be able to use the whole screen under X (even if Navigator looks terrible in 4-bit color). However, I am getting that the impression that this feature is walking on top of the file system (or vice versa). Ever since I installed the new boot code, I have been having to run fsck by hand on the root partition every other reboot (or so). It only seems to happen when I use -b, and creating boot.config and/or boot.help seems to have reduced the problem (or at least obscured it). Any ideas? I do not think this can simply be the result of switching to -current, as I was playing around at least some with that before installing the new boot blocks. And, like I said, it seems to only occur when I use -b. Oh...and is there any way I can avoid having to type -b all the time? That is somewhat typical behaviour. If you have your disk timeout set to 5 minutes in the BIOS, and cron running atrun every 5 minutes, you could easily be seeing behavior like that. Atrun is not the only reason your disk might be getting hit all the time. You might nuke atrun (or at least make it less frequent) and/or change the disk spin-down interval.
