This includes the 0.81.12 release of i4b, so developers only please :-) There's a suggested profile there too. You'll need to at least change the phone number and the authentication details. I don't know if the patch applies cleanly to my ppp archive, but it should do.... Feedback etc is welcome. Thanks. -- Brian Don't _EVER_ lose your sense of humour ! There were several severe problems fixed in the meantime since 0.70 which might possibly lead to the problem you describe, so the very first thing _i_ would do is upgrade to the latest i4b version. I'm no expert though. Basically (to sumamrise the discussion between Brian and myself), I'm trying to get PPPoverISDN working, but am having a few problems, it looks like the problem is at the i4b end, as PPP seems to be doing the right thing. I am getting the same problem when using sppp which would seem to confirm this. The machine in question is running FreeBSD 3.2-Release and i4b 00.81.12, the card is a Teles S0/8 (a kindly provided by Hellmuth). The posted setup was the one used for sppp tests, therefore I didn't include the ppp.conf file (which is just a slightly modified version of Brians sample, altered to accomodate the change of ISP). What you are seeing is the result of an interrupt from the card not being delivered to the interrupt handler. This can have many reasons, the most likely are problems with the IRQ routing settings in the BIOS for that particular IRQ you are using or hardware. There is a long entry in the i4b FAQ about how other people solved the BIOS setting problem. For the hardware (and it was a Teles S0/8 in a particular piece of PC brand hardware) problems i once posted a short article here, which went like this: A short story on PC Hardware or HELP, my ISDN card does not work! ----------------------------------------------------------------- FYI and before i forget about that: recently i bought one of those cheap soundcards to plug it in one of my machines. This machine is a usual machine of a well known manufacturer and is equipped with a PCI and an ISA bus, on the ISA bus was a working Teles ISDN card and everything else was fine. After installing the sound card and configuring its driver it worked almost immediately. But ISDN stopped working, some of you know the symptoms ... /kernel: i4b-L1-timer3_expired: state = F4 Awaiting Signal /kernel: i4b-L1-isic_recover: HSCX B: ISTA = 0x0 /kernel: i4b-L1-isic_recover: ISAC: ISTA = 0x94 /kernel: i4b-L1-isic_recover: ISAC: CISQ = 0x52 /kernel: i4b-L1-isic_recover: HSCX B: IMASK = 0xff /kernel: i4b-L1-isic_recover: HSCX A: IMASK = 0xf8 /kernel: i4b-L1-isic_recover: ISAC: IMASK = 0x2a /kernel: i4b-L2-i4b_T202_timeout: unit 0, N202 = 3 /kernel: i4b-L1-ph_data_req: still in state F3! /kernel: i4b-L3-T303_timeout: SETUP not answered, cr = 43 /kernel: i4b-L3-next_l3state: FSM illegal state, state = ST_OW - Out Wait EST, event = EV_T303EXP - T303 timeout! ... and you all know by now that this is the IRQ not being delivered to or recognized by the interrupt handler. Removed the soundcard, ISDN worked. Plugged in the soundcard, ISDN does not work anymore. Checked memory ranges, i/o ranges, IRQ etc. etc.: nothing all was fine. I became desparate ("this s**t PC crap hardware design !$'%&//!"). What i then did was disabling the IRQ ISA connector PCB trace on the soundcards ISA connector, the ISDN card is or wanted to use (i didn't want to cut the PCB trace with a knife, so i used a bit of adhesive tape to insulate it). And, voila, since then i again have a working ISDN card (and a soundcard) in that machine. Bottom line: a driver can only run if the hardware allows it to run. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 559747-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 559747-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de 22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed Jul 14 0:43:25 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from post.ruh-bath.swest.nhs.uk (hide14.nhs.uk [194.6.81.14]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3456315157 for ; Wed, 14 Jul 1999 00:43:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from rich@ruh-bath.swest.nhs.uk) Received: by post.ruh-bath.swest.nhs.uk with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2448.0) id ; Wed, 14 Jul 1999 08:44:12 +0100 Message-ID: <930BFA16390CD3119E010000F6E660C9A4F5@fear.ruh-bath.swest.nhs.uk> From: "Wood, Richard" To: "'hm@hcs.de'" , rich@dynamite.org Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG, brian@Awfulhak.org Subject: RE: PPPoISDN Date: Wed, 14 Jul 1999 08:43:59 +0100 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2448.0) Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > -----Original Message----- > From: hm@hcs.de [mailto:hm@hcs.de] > Sent: 14 July 1999 07:25 > This can have many reasons, the most likely are problems with the IRQ > routing settings in the BIOS for that particular IRQ you are using or > hardware. Given that I had to disable an onboard serial port to free up the IRQ, it's probably the IBM BIOS causing the problem. I'll have another play around with it later. Having reread the FAQ I'll have a play around with the pnp settings. Therefore you have to edit /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/files.i386 and add the line i4b/layer1/i4b_avm_fritz_pci.c optional isic device-driver Also it is better to add the line AVM_A1_PCI opt_i4b.h to /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/options.i386. This is a maintenance release where some bugs were fixed and some drivers were added. Please read the README file for a general roadmap and introduction to i4b. For information on what has changed since the last release, please have a look at file ChangeLog in the isdn4bsd base directory. This release will be committed as soon as possible (usually within the next 2-3 weeks) to the FreeBSD-current source tree. The isdn4bsd package is available ftp://i4b.consol.de/pub Bugfixes, enhancements and addons (if any) will be made available at http://www.freebsd-support.de/i4b This time, i'd like to thank especially Udo Schweigert for the AVM Fritz!Card PnP driver and the Siemens I-Surf 2.0 driver he contributed and for thoroughly testing this release on a giant mix of various FreeBSD releases and various ISDN hardware. There is not even the slightest need for the ":-(" here, for various reasons: first, the old format was obviously not compatible with the various sound manipulating programs because i did it wrong in the first place. Second, this fact is documented. Third, at that time a new utility g711conv (look at the name, do you see any similarity to the old sound file filename extensions ?) was introduced which allows conversion not only between audio formats but also between the old and the new format. > I would also be glad If I could #define the audio format to the old one. > This would save me from adapting my answering machine, the sounds, the > dtmf detection code etc... My solution was to "overuninstall" 00.82.00, then do the cvsup, make buildworld, make installworld, then to "overinstall" again, and to build a kernel with i4b support. There was one single problem that I encountered: I had to remove any header files that 00.82 brought but not 00.80 from /usr/include/machine (it was i4b_rbch_ioctl.h only) before doing make installworld, or else the install would fail while generating perl header files.
