Today we had another instance of someone using the -questions list in an attempt to get a hold of someone "in power" about the Linux Expo display booth in order to put some FreeBSD info on a web page previewing the Expo. The problem was the woman got a smart ass response from a user, who is not AFAICT, associated at all directly w/ the project (not listed as a contributor anyway). I don't know if she has since gotten a hold of Jordan or someone else, but I've responded pointing them to Jordan. The woman said she got the -questions address off the web page (I assume from http://www.freebsd.org/mailto.html which she probably got to from the link at the bottom of the main page). That does appear to be the only address (to someone not knowing the structure of the mailing lists). I believe this same thing happened last year w/ Wilfredo Sanchez from Apple. Would it be possible to add a slightly better description to that mailto.html page to the current text and then also add an "official" address. I have no idea what the "official" address should be (Jordan's ?), but I think we need something. Since everyone loves diffs how about the following? (note I've stuck in Jordan's address as the official email address for lack of a better idea - I imagine he'd want to sign off on that but he is listed as the Public Relations guy!) --- mailto.html.orig Tue Jan 18 18:58:09 2000 +++ mailto.html Tue Jan 18 19:11:09 2000 @@ -21,8 +21,14 @@

Since the algorithms are generally *not* O(n), that sort of difference cannot be ignored. -john To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-www" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-www Thu Jan 20 21:33:26 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from ladyluck.clue4all.net (ladyluck.clue4all.net [130.215.226.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C8E2C14BDC for ; Thu, 20 Jan 2000 21:33:17 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from dogbert@clue4all.net) Received: from clue4all.net (ladyluck.clue4all.net [130.215.226.21]) by ladyluck.clue4all.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id XAA06004 for ; Thu, 20 Jan 2000 23:55:46 -0500 Message-ID: <3887E6D2.ECEC77CE@clue4all.net> Date: Thu, 20 Jan 2000 23:55:46 -0500 From: "Brian J. Also I see that the gallery page is "Last modified: 1999/09/06 07:02:43" - quite some time ago. I think that it is important, for FreeBSD advocacy at least, to get new sites displayed as soon as possible. Let's do our best to support and promote this beautiful OS !!! It points to: "ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/i386/packages-3.3-release/All/k ermit-7.0.196-beta.tgz" but there is no such file. (Fortunately, 3.3-stable does have a link that works) Since so much else of the FreeBSD site is well-automated, I'm sure it's on someone's to-do list to come up with something that will periodically check all of the links... hope it happens soon. --Ken To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-www" in the body of the message
