The radio is plugged directly in to the sound card and has a good, clean, strong input signal (but not strong enough to cause these distortions - well within normal levels). Has anybody ever been successfull in compiling the mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net mpeg4ip-0.9.3 tarball ? some utilities seem to work, but the mp4player doesnt. you need gmake for it. Couldnt play or encode anything. The whole "internet TV" scene seems to be driven by big money expectations. Quicktime 6 has been stopped. Cant download the Philips "mp4net webcine" player, all I currently have for "mpeg 4" is the envivio plugin for the Real player on windows, which seems to work fine (if you let the real player download it from the real site...) . The biggest surprise was in man mp4creator, you can "optimize" mp4 to do http streaming. You can check it out at http://intra.b.lab.net/~uzs106/bla/optimized.ram with real on windows. mp4creator seems to work here... Sorry, if I am completely wrong with my impressions about DiVX, but... Dont know if it are the players, that refuse to play "alien" files or the files themselves. mpeg4ip seems to be based on some kind of divx (see divxenc). H. Set the environment variables - GTK_CONFIG to /usr/X11R6/bin/gtk12-config - GLIB_CONFIG to /usr/local/bin/glib12-config I did it without those, but then it doesn't build the GUI. So if you get errors here, try it without the variables. Comment out the 'typedef' of in_port_t in /include/systrems.h (multiple occurrences). /lib/sdp/sdp_decode.c line 1552: "%ld" -> "%d" You have to use gmake. I just compiled it, I haven't tested it. I haven't made a port out of it, because it uses a lot of software which is already in the ports collection, and I think it should use the programs from ports, not those which are included in the tarball. The include breakage didn't seem to me like anything worth "fixing". Also, I had planned to make a port of the most vital utilities of the package (and fix it all up in a way they'd build using existing ports rather than all the unpatched stuff in the tarball) and then another one of the darwin streaming server. Do want you to go ahead with it? I'd then gladly move on to port mjpegtools. Hey All, While trying to record from the line in on a Vortex 2 card (either directly to file, or while being shoutcasted by blackice) using the aureal drivers in the ports, there is a lot of distortion. Almost like there is a feedback loop somewhere within the mixer. I am using an Aureal Vortex 2 card with FreeBSD 4.5-RELEASE, and the latest version of the aureal drivers. My mixer settings are as follows: Mixer vol is currently set to 0:0 Mixer bass is currently set to 0:0 Mixer treble is currently set to 0:0 Mixer pcm is currently set to 0:0 Mixer speaker is currently set to 0:0 Mixer line is currently set to 70:70 Mixer mic is currently set to 0:0 Mixer cd is currently set to 0:0 Mixer rec is currently set to 35:35 Mixer ogain is currently set to 0:0 Mixer line1 is currently set to 0:0 Mixer phin is currently set to 0:0 Mixer video is currently set to 0:0 "Line" is the only thing set up to record. Everything else is set to playback. You can listen to the stream here (56kbps) - http://213.80.36.207:9002/ using shoutcast, or if you need 28kbps - http://213.80.36.207:9000/. The stream is a test stream, of a local radio station (Glasgow, Scotland). The radio is plugged directly in to the sound card and has a good, clean, strong input signal (but not strong enough to cause these distortions - well within normal levels). Traditionally, I'm a server admin. I admit I haven't really touched the multimedia side of FreeBSD before, but this has become a requirement recently.. So forgive me if I'm not sending important diagnostic information etc in this email.. Or if I'm asking stupid questions.. I would appreciate any help a LOT! However, it only works if you have it plugged in a boot time and are running at a resolution the card can support (like 800x600) on the TV-out. In this case, the card automatically mirrors whatever is on the screen on the tv-out port. I've never managed to get the powerdesk (/usr/ports/x11/mgapdesk) to actually be useful or to turn on the TV-out once the machine is already booted unfortunatly. -- \ |_ _|__ __|_ \ __| Jason Andresen jandrese@mitre.org |\/ | | | / _| Network and Distributed Systems Engineer _| _|___| _| _|_\___| Office: 703-883-7755 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Tue Apr 16 8:53:36 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mailout03.sul.t-online.com (mailout03.sul.t-online.com [194.25.134.81]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7A55537B419 for ; Tue, 16 Apr 2002 08:53:33 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fwd00.sul.t-online.de by mailout03.sul.t-online.com with smtp id 16xUAE-00085Y-0F; Tue, 16 Apr 2002 16:42:34 +0200 Received: from Magelan.Leidinger.net (520065502893-0001@[80.131.115.242]) by fmrl00.sul.t-online.com with esmtp id 16xUA3-0eNRFgC; Tue, 16 Apr 2002 16:42:23 +0200 Received: from Leidinger.net (netchild@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by Magelan.Leidinger.net (8.12.2/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g3GEgY2H092694; Tue, 16 Apr 2002 16:42:38 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from netchild@Leidinger.net) Message-Id: <200204161442.g3GEgY2H092694@Magelan.Leidinger.net> Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 16:42:34 +0200 (CEST) From: Alexander Leidinger Subject: Re: mpeg 4/divx To: uzs106@ibm.rhrz.uni-bonn.de Cc: multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG, michaelnottebrock@gmx.net In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Sender: 520065502893-0001@t-dialin.net Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On 16 Apr, Heiko Recktenwald wrote: >> > Has anybody ever been successfull in compiling the mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net >> > mpeg4ip-0.9.3 tarball ? > >> I just compiled it, I haven't tested it. If they'd also release a _small_ player application like "The Playa" on win32, ports like "linux-divx5encoder" and "linux-divx5player" would become feasible...which would be a good thing. Or maybe, there are third-party applications which could be used in such a way? As for xvid, we will have an excellent native encoding application for xvid as soon as transcode gets updated to the latest release. -- Michael Nottebrock To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Wed Apr 17 3:44: 8 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mailout05.sul.t-online.com (mailout05.sul.t-online.com [194.25.134.82]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A222B37B416 for ; Wed, 17 Apr 2002 03:44:04 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fwd02.sul.t-online.de by mailout05.sul.t-online.com with smtp id 16xmux-0005S3-02; Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:44:03 +0200 Received: from Magelan.Leidinger.net (520065502893-0001@[80.131.118.19]) by fmrl02.sul.t-online.com with esmtp id 16xmup-0YUGIqC; Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:43:55 +0200 Received: from Leidinger.net (netchild@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by Magelan.Leidinger.net (8.12.2/8.12.2) with ESMTP id g3HAi83p022893; Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:44:12 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from netchild@Leidinger.net) Message-Id: <200204171044.g3HAi83p022893@Magelan.Leidinger.net> Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:44:08 +0200 (CEST) From: Alexander Leidinger Subject: Re: mpeg 4/divx To: michaelnottebrock@gmx.net Cc: multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG In-Reply-To: <3CBD504D.3090300@gmx.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Sender: 520065502893-0001@t-dialin.net Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On 17 Apr, Michael Nottebrock wrote: >> What about: You provide the port(s), and I commit it. > > Okay. I've got the same working on the ATI cards. Well, I've got it working under FreeBSD at 640x480. I haven't yet figured out what to do to get it running at 800x600, but it should work that way, as it does under Windows. http://www.mired.org/home/mwm/ Independent WWW/Perforce/FreeBSD/Unix consultant, email for more information. Linux pwc-driver (Philips usb webcams, has qc3000 support) is used as reference. Userland simple hack with ugen. The other parts of the cam work (audio/led/button) and video sort of works too, but: Image data is sensible, but there are repetitive blocks of (mostly) 0x00, length 10 bytes inserted. The transfer consists 8 bytes header, yuv data (320x240 5fps) and 4 bytes trailer, 115212 bytes total. Last packet is shorter than normal (isochronous mode, packet size 582). The transfer of an image is not supposed to contain other framing bytes than the header/trailer. The header looks good, the trailer does not. Pixel-data extends into the trailer-part, but there is no more data- nor trailer-bytes coming. Another header and similarly corrupt image comes along nicely after the flagging short packet. Some pixels are missing too. Otherwise the image seems crisp and clear, obviously jagged and twisted. This is on not-quite-up-to-date -CURRENT, btw. Computer (Abit KT7) is fast enough to stay in pace with the circular buffer of ugen, reads 582 many times then 552 once. Ideas ? To begin with I added the following lines into the config file: device snd device sb0 at isa? port 0x220 irq 5 drq 0 flags 0x11 device sbmidi0 at isa? port 0x330 irq 9 device opl0 at isa? port 0x388 device joy0 at isa? port 0x200 The kernel compiled properly and successfully loaded the soundblaster pro 3.1 driver. But I still got no sound out of the card, using cat /filename > /dev/audio or > /dev/dsp and got the same no sound result using play /filename when I checked cat /dev/sndstat it showed that no mixer was loaded, which seemed like a fair explanation for the silence, so I dug deeper in man sb(4). This turned up an extra option for the Sound Galaxy pro card that I am using which should specifically add mixer support - the SG card apparently has a slightly different mixer from a basic SB pro which includes bass/treble adjustment, and I hoped the problem would be solved. So I went ahead and added the suggestion from man sb options __SGNXPRO__ into the config file, right after the sound devices section, but now the kernel doesnt compile any more. After running ln -s /usr/local/kernels/MYKERNELFILE I then enter as usual: /usr/sbin/config MYKERNELFILE but that's as far as the process gets. The output on the screen is: Error Unknown option __SGNXPRO__ (line xxx) I've checked and double-checked the relevant documentation and im sure I havnt made a typo or syntax error. What's more that specific option seems to have been present going back quite a few releases, so I'm truly puzzled why config wont accept it Has anyone else got experience with this kind of card, or with options parameters for soundcards generally, or should I be thinking about reporting this to bugs ? thanks in advance Jean-Mark Dupoux jmdupoux_@_lineone.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Thu Apr 18 7:28:46 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from f2node23.rhrz.uni-bonn.de (node23.rhrz.uni-bonn.de [131.220.14.223]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5E94937B405 for ; Thu, 18 Apr 2002 07:28:40 -0700 (PDT) Received: from moritz.alleswirdgelber (ascend-tk-p13.dialin.uni-bonn.de [131.220.244.13]) by f2node23.rhrz.uni-bonn.de (AIX4.3/8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id QAA36290; Thu, 18 Apr 2002 16:28:37 +0200 Received: from moritz.alleswirdgelber (moritz.alleswirdgelber [10.0.0.4]) by moritz.alleswirdgelber (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id g3IEAYS32704; Thu, 18 Apr 2002 16:10:34 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from uzs106@ibm.rhrz.uni-bonn.de) Date: Thu, 18 Apr 2002 16:10:34 +0200 (CEST) From: Heiko Recktenwald X-Sender: uzs106@moritz.alleswirdgelber To: "Steve O'Hara-Smith" Cc: multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: mpeg 4/divx In-Reply-To: <20020417221254.12e16dcc.steveo@eircom.net> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, On Wed, 17 Apr 2002, Steve O'Hara-Smith wrote: > Implementing platform independent standards doesn't seem to be high > on the priority list for the commercial vendors - they are probably fed up > with seeing better implementations in open source ;) Hmm. I think I tried more or less every possible combination of inclusion/exclusion of the other devices combined with pcm and sb0, but nothing ever got past make ( so long as I had pcm and not snd as the first device) Since you're working on the code for this I'll be more specific about the exact card and chipsets involved here as it might be useful for reference: Aztech Sound Galaxy pro II (often referred to as Sound Galaxy Washington or sometimes Nova) main chipset is AZT2316r and the card also has a Crystal 4231a-kl obviously the card has DOS/Windows drivers, which basically set the card up with SB pro emulation, combined with MSS sound system, opl3, joystick and midi, all at the "standard" addresses (software adjustable) I think I also tried to install Crystal drivers on the card once in DOS but definitely without very good results. Other non-specific DOS programs can get audio produced using basic SB-pro settings without the specific Aztech driver (eg a DOS general hardware diagnostics utility I use to check IRQ's ) From what I can tell the card is not truly plug-n-play, but uses an EEPROM chip where the settings get written to when options get changed through the driver interface I'm not desparate to get this working although it would be very useful, but still very confused why the __SGNXPRO__ option doesn't get recognised - this is where practical experience from someone else's machine might really pay off. I tried adding make clean in the run of commands but get the exact same failure at make. I suspected it would happen, since I already ran rm -r on the compile/KERNEL directory with the same intention on a couple of attempts to build with device pcm before that, again with no difference in the result what im trying to figure now is whether there is already an attempt to probe the hardware when the compile is running into the problem code, or is this "just software" reacting badly on my machine ? The only code that will need work for a Linux to BSD port is that which deals directly with the video capture driver and the sound card driver. On Linux the interfaces are V4L and OSS. mp4live uses about 10 of the V4L ioctls and 5 of the OSS ioctls. I don't know anything about what is available for FreeBSD in terms of multimedia drivers/APIs. If you have some info, I could scan it and give you more details on how to modify the existing code. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. It beats me exactly why, but when I compiled with: device pcm device sbc0 at isa? port 0x220 irq 5 drq 1 flags 0x10 the card was recognised easily enough and loaded up as a soundblaster pro, but would only play .AU files reliably. Wav's were still thowing up errors with: sb_dspwr(0x40) timed out and so on So after switching back to this build: device snd device sb0 at isa? port 0x220 irq 5 drq 1 flags 0x10 device opl3 at isa? port 0x388 device joy0 at isa? port 0x200 wav files and au files played equally well. I still have no mixer to set volumes and so forth, and the same still holds true though about having to boot DOS first and reset with ctrl-alt-del just to get the card running at all. I may look into running DOS commands somehow directly from inside freebsd to see if using the original utilities is an option for command line mixer settings jmdupoux_@_lineone.net --------------- Original Message ------------------- Ok, this one is solved - it was a hardware issue, in as much as the card only works after a boot into DOS and then a soft-reset.
