You will need a bktr(4) compatible TV capture card and cable tv (and it will probably work in France, Germany and Switzerland only). The reason why I as the maintainer of that port ask you for your help is that I moved recently into an apartment without cable TV (which is mandatory for the Electronic Programme Guide) (if there is somebody out there who does meet all the prerequisites and who is wants to become the maintainer of this port, please let me know. It's a bit difficult to check if everything goes otherwise, but I'll do my best). My update to the port addresses the following issues: - fix fetch error (the old version was no longer available) - fix threads usage (uses ${PTHREAD_LIBS} now) - use tcl/tk 8.4 - restrict port to supported architectures You can download a the updated port skeleton at http://home.leo.org/~barner/nxtvepg/nxtvepg-2.6.0-port.tar.gz You can find more information on nxtvepg here (the FreeBSD section of the website will be updated soon) http://nxtvepg.sourceforge.net/ Thanks in advance for you help! Two however are existing and have industrial grade CCTV cameras, These locations are also in a fairly hostile environment, so I want to re-use these. I'm thinking I can do this with a video capture borad, right? Which ones are well supported under FreeBSD? I don't need ultra high resolutin, as a matter of fact, gien the number of images that I'll be accumulating (4/per second * 60 seconds * 60 minutes * 24 hours * number of days I need to keep) small image size is very important. There's a very simple program to capture a jpeg from the bktr interface called bktr2jpeg that should do the job - a search should find the code quickly enough (it's a single C file very simple code, the meteor man page has enough information to rewrite it). I'm either goging Yes. > to have to use 4 cards, or something like the Inpact series of cards. > Is switiching between the sources supported? How quick can U switch? Switching between sources is supported (IIRC it's a command line option on bktr2jpeg) and switch time is dominated by the need for a full frame to establish sync (which assuming a 25fps frame rate will be tight given that you want to switch 16 times a second, but should work as long as no sync signals from the camera get missed). I'm not familiar with the Inpact series (and google keeps throwing me a French review site called pc-inpact) but if they use an BT8[47][89] chipset then they should be OK with them. I think that's a good solution since the author of nxtvepg is nice enough to include our FreeBSD specific stuff into his source tree such that porting becomes more and more easy (hopefully that will hold for the future ;-) I will wait until somebody tests the port successfully on -CURRENT before I submit a PR. (mx300 works fine :) ) usbdevs output might be interesting, but I suspect its using the vendor class and getting grabbed by ugen. The problem is that about every 5 seconds, the video pauses for about half a second. The audio does not pause. I do not experience the 'pause' when watching the stream on a Windows 2K box running Media Player 9. The stream is 205 kbps video and 32 kbps audio stream encoded on a Windows box using Windows Media Encoder 9 and version 9 codecs. I have also set the encoder to use version 8 codec but get the same pauses on FBSD. I do not recall having the pause on older versions of mplayer. Does anyone else experience this? Any ideas on how to resolve? Any ideas on how to resolve? I've had problems with some streams too.. mainly it has been with not being able to get the stream fast enought from the net... not sure if that would be a problem here... us mmsclient and then have mplayer play the video... it it plays it while it is local, it is probally something that is happening during transport
