The only case I get the IP address instead of the host name is when there is no A entry in the DNS server's zone file. When you use nslookup/host/dig to make the same requests do you get a name? Do you have a correct /etc/resolv.conf? What versions of FreeBSD & JDK do you use? It installed without issue, however when I start it up and browse for files it shows a very limited list of directories. For example, browsing /usr I might games, bin, sbin, but not local. The second problem was when I try to have it launch tomcat for profiling, it just hangs with 'Trying to connect to debug ... 4444'. I know jprobe comes with its own JDK: java version "1.4.0_02" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0_02-b02) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0_02-b02, mixed mode) I tried switching it to use the Freebsd JDK, but when I try launching jprobe, it hangs on the splash screen. I also tried pointing it to the linux jdk port, however it behaves the same as the JProbe JRE. I know JPRobe has a lot of issues with jdk 1.4.2 which may be causing the hangs. I have 1.4.2 bsd jdk and linux jdk installed. Firstly, there is a 'service pack' available from Sitraka that is suppose to improve support for JDK 1.4.2. We applied it(unzip to JProbe dir). Then had to modify the script for each JProbe application (like bin/jpprofiler) adding the following to list of supported OS's: FreeBSD) platform_java_args="-Dxterm=/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm -Dxterm_secure=yes" xbin=/usr/X11R6/bin ;; It just tells JProbe where to find xterm etc. Then, when configuring JProbe for Tomcat integration, we had to have the Server Directory and Catalina Base to be the same directory which was a complete copy of Tomcat. We had tomcat setup in a shared environment which was causing JProbe some issues (although it never reported any errors, just died silently). Basically, when you run the program below, the JDialog (JOptionPane) appears *behind* the JWindow instead of in front of it, unless the JWindow has keyboard focus. This is very bad if the window is bigger than the dialog as it obscures the dialog box. Linux does not exibit this behaviour. It can be worked around using an undecorated JFrame, which is what I'm doing in my big application, but that's not compatible with java 1.3, and it's not necessary on other platforms. Here's what I'm using: twiggy:~> uname -a FreeBSD twiggy 4.9-STABLE FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE #2: Wed Jan 14 17:21:22 EST 2004 root@twiggy:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/TWIGGY i386 twiggy:~> java -version java version "1.4.2-p6" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2-p6-root_23_feb_2004_13_28) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-p6-root_23_feb_2004_13_28, mixed mode) I am also using KDE with "focus strictly under mouse". Sun won't accept the bug report because it's not for linux, solaris or windows. That doesn't exists (or it does, but you can't really call when you need to), but I've used undocrated JFrames instead and that seems ok for my application, so I'm okay. Now I just want to make sure the right people know. The main objective is the automation of JDK/JRE build and run dependency checking. The original version was aimed to ease the life of porters. Although it has proved to be useful and reliable to a great extend, we are currently working on a new version. We intend to reach a high degree of flexibility to cope with the recent increase of available JDK/JRE flavors. Furthermore, the new version will be easier to maintain, which means improved reliability, and hopefully more frequent updates. For more information on the subject, please read: http://www.esil.univ-mrs.fr/~hquiroz/freebsd/bsd.java.mk-2.0.html This PR is to centralize testing efforts regarding bsd.java.mk 2.0. I have packaged the latest development release so it may be installed easily on any system, and also deinstalled easily with no hurt to the system. So I ask any volunter to install and test it for as many Java ports as you can. Only this way we may claim bsd.java.mk 2.0 stable enough to be commited. I would really like to have this commited before 5.3-RELEASE which is expected to be a decisive release (becoming -STABLE branch BTW). You will find a list of all (known) Java ports: http://www.esil.univ-mrs.fr/~hquiroz/freebsd/bsd.java.mk-2.0-ports.html For each one, it is indicated whether or not the port installs successfully with bsd.java.mk 2.0 (and the possible reasons why it does not install). Please report your success at installing any of the port that are not yet marked as 'OK'. Also, please report any failure at installing a Java port with bsd.java.mk 2.0. Failure reports should be sent as follow-ups to this PR whereas success notification should be sent directly to me: herve.quiroz@esil.univ-mrs.fr. Please read the current status of a port before sending a success report: try not to send success report for a port that is already marked as 'OK'. As it the case for any development stage, take note that this is UNSTABLE software so you test it at your own risks. >How-To-Repeat: - Download the latest release from http://www.esil.univ-mrs.fr/~hquiroz/freebsd/bsd.java.mk-2.0.html - untar - make install - (re)install any Java port and possibly report success or failure >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted:
