The size of a file exceeded the maximum (about 2.1E9 bytes). which is incorrect. 2.1*10^9 bytes (2 GiB), isn't the maximum file size in the FreeBSD Operating System. >How-To-Repeat: $ man 2 intro >Fix: NetBSD and OpenBSD state the following in their man page: 27 EFBIG File too large. The size of a file exceeded the maximum. (The system-wide maximum file size is 2**63 bytes. Each file system may impose a lower limit for files contained within it.) These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Rebuild the kernel. Due to the time stamp change on the Makefile, some other object files will be rebuilt, for example trap.o. With a bit of luck, the added -g option will not change anything for the generated ! code, so you will finally get a new kernel with similar code to the faulting one but some debugging symbols. You should at least verify the old and new sizes with the size(1) command. If there is a mismatch, you probably need to give up here.

The mathinfo program is located below the installation directory. This in turn depends on the location where Mathematica is installed on the hard drive, which can be chosen by the user. No doubt the choice of keys and key security are the most vulnerable aspect of bdes." Sure, DES is cryptographically reasonably strong, but 2^56 key space has been considered vulnerable to exhaustive key search for several years. Triple DES is safe, but it seems bdes doesn't implement it. I've broken up the kernel into different parts (sound, usb, i4b, ...) which reference other parts with the tag-file feature. I may not have all dependencies correct, and I haven't all parts of the kernel added to the set, but I think it's already usable if you're interested in just a part of the kernel. Josh, See http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=76942 The commit at http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/faq/book.sgml#rev1.690 is a somewhat different patch than I originally submitted. In my original patch, still available at http://zanchey.ucc.asn.au/freebsd/usermount.faq.book.sgml.patch, it sticks with acd0, because (generally speaking) new users/readers of the FAQ will have IDE drives. (I realise that not everyone uses IDE, and I should clarify this point. In my experience, users with SCSI drives are generally slightly more clueful than those with just IDE drives.) I didn't have any problems with the version committed by jcamou@, mainly because I didn't spot this inconsistency. The best course of action here, I think, is probably to submit a separate patch and PR (because mine has been closed) and say something like "Problem introduced in commit 1.689 as a result of docs/76942". A good spot on your behalf! Now that I really look at the page I see that it mentions send-pr, and the web front-end to send-pr. I wonder if gtk-send-pr should be mentioned as well. Bug reports and feature requests are continuously submitted by users throughout the release cycle. Problems reports are entered into our GNATS[9] database through email, the send-pr(1) application, or via the web interface provided at http://www.FreeBSD.org/send-pr.html. In addition to the multitude of different technical mailing lists about FreeBSD, the FreeBSD Quality Assurance mailing list provides a forum for discussing the finer points of ``release-polishing''. I can provide patches if the powers that be decide this needs fixing. -- Thanks, Josh Paetzel
