These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Emily is working on implementing some of the suggestions to her recent design. I think we've got near universal approval that this design is better than what we've currently got so I plan to start the merge this weekend. I will first make sure that her work in Perforce is fully integrated with any new changes that have happened in CVS such as new usergroups added, etc. I will then tag the entire 'www' tree with a 'PRE_REDESIGN' tag so that we can later see the changes that are made for the redesign. I may lock the tree for 30 minutes for this tag operation. I will then proceed to merge all of the changes to the English language site into CVS. When this is complete I will work on the other translations and then send a mail here to announce when the work is complete. Thanks for all the input from everyone about the new design, and especially thanks to Emily for incorporating/considering all the suggestions. Once the design is in CVS we can all continue to make the improvements that have been discussed in this thread. - Murray From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Sep 20 17:26:44 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AA6E916A41F for ; Tue, 20 Sep 2005 17:26:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from rene@82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl) Received: from 82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl (82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl [82.168.75.155]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DE1A443D45 for ; Tue, 20 Sep 2005 17:26:43 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from rene@82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl) Received: from 82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by 82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id j8KHQfQM081148 for ; Tue, 20 Sep 2005 19:26:41 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from rene@82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl) Received: (from rene@localhost) by 82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl (8.13.4/8.13.1/Submit) id j8KHQfOO081147 for doc@freebsd.org; Tue, 20 Sep 2005 19:26:41 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from rene) Date: Tue, 20 Sep 2005 19:26:41 +0200 From: Rene Ladan To: doc@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20050920172641.GA81056@82-168-75-155-bbxl.xdsl.tiscali.nl> References: <20050915051003.GK27537@freebsdmall.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="CE+1k2dSO48ffgeK" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20050915051003.GK27537@freebsdmall.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Cc: Subject: Re: Moving to the new website redesign X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 20 Sep 2005 17:26:44 -0000 --CE+1k2dSO48ffgeK Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Wed, Sep 14, 2005 at 10:10:03PM -0700, Murray Stokely wrote: > [...] and the HTML version is > available here : >=20 > http://beastie.emilyboyd.com/~emily/data/ >=20 This host has port 80 or any other HTTP port closed since at least yesterday. http://www.emilyboyd.com/ works ok. (I wanted to do that in a companion article but ran out of time before 6.0). I don't know if this will be helpful to you or not but I offer it if so. http://www.FreeBSD.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/version-guide/index.html I'd like to see someone come up with the feature matrix. mcl From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Sep 21 20:03:53 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8159016A41F for ; Wed, 21 Sep 2005 20:03:53 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from josh@tcbug.org) Received: from sccrmhc11.comcast.net (sccrmhc11.comcast.net [63.240.76.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2B4EC43D49 for ; Wed, 21 Sep 2005 20:03:52 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from josh@tcbug.org) Received: from [192.168.1.102] (c-24-118-173-219.hsd1.mn.comcast.net[24.118.173.219]) by comcast.net (sccrmhc11) with ESMTP id <2005092120035201100ph04le>; Wed, 21 Sep 2005 20:03:52 +0000 From: Josh Paetzel To: doc@freebsd.org Date: Wed, 21 Sep 2005 15:04:46 -0500 User-Agent: KMail/1.8.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200509211504.46861.josh@tcbug.org> Cc: Subject: Proposed addition to the handbook http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 21 Sep 2005 20:03:53 -0000 4.5 Using the Ports Collection The following sections provide basic instructions on using the Ports Collection to install or remove programs from your system. I haven't been able to find any documentation in the handbook that tells how to use the various knobs in a port's Makefile. I suspect that there is a fairly large subset of FreeBSD users that don't know you can do cd /usr/ports/irc/epic5 && make WITH_SOCKS=yes install Another question would be if this would go beyond the 'basic instructions' statement at the top of the page. Sounds helpful, though I think it would be good to keep it in some kind of "advanced" section or even an article. The ports/pkgs section is already heavy reading. I'd hope it would at least mention pkgtools.conf(5) so users know the special arguments don't HAVE to be typed in for every use. The handbook doesn't mention it now. And maybe say something about those curses menus that "pop up" and halt your port installs (if you don't use sufficient make variables?). I've just finished translating Chapter 2 (Installation) of the HandBook into the hebrew language. I was wondering whether I could somehow "donate" it to the FreeBSD project, since for as far as I know, there are no FreeBSD guides in hebrew available. Before registering to the mailing list, I tried browsing around. the most distance (and topic-related) place I've got regarding translations was this: http://www.freebsd.org/docproj/translations.html Unfortunately, there's no way to "start a project in your own language" (as mine simply doesn't appear on the list) or submitting files/translations. Help appreciated, Best regards, -Ya'ad Golani. I never have posted anything to here before, so I don't know if you have a certain layout or something. However, here it is. Currently on the above server, clicking on this link displays the perl script instead of running it. Can you pass this on to the sysad for this server? Probably, it has read access/permission and needs execute instead/as well. Thanks. I couldn't find any mention of how to configure wpa_supplicant for simple wep keys, although it's gone by on the mailing list a bunch of times. Seems like it should be in the docs. Having it written down might head off a bunch of headaches and questions. >How-To-Repeat: Set up a wep based wpa managed network as a first timer and try to find the instructions. >Fix: Someone w/ better info about wpa_supplicant should check out the text for wep_key[0123], but here's a first cut at a patch. *** wpa_supplicant.conf.5 2005/09/24 01:41:12 1.1 --- wpa_supplicant.conf.5 2005/09/24 02:03:05 *************** *** 396,399 **** --- 396,403 ---- By default these workarounds are enabled.
