First, i will apologize about my bad english... sorry... I'm trying to install FreeBSD 6.0-Release into a Dell Precision 380 workstation. The machine has an usb keyboard. I try with the "usb keyboard" from menu boot, also setting this "set hint.atkbd.0.flags="0x1"" from "options" in the menu boot option, or also with "set hint.acpi.0.disabled="1""... Is impossible to obtain keyboard when i arrive to sysinstall menu. Sometimes the machine hangup when arrive to "atkb" or keyboard section in the kernel load. Really, I can't understand what's happen... If a try with a FreeBSD 5.3 (Freesbie 1.1 livecd) all run ok. Here, attached to this mail, are two dmesg archives; one extracted from a knoppix 4.0 and another extrated from a Freesbie 1.1, and also two more archives from a lspci -vv from the knoppix 4.0, and the another from the Freesbie 1.1 livecd pciconf output. Anybody can help me, please? Thank you in advance. -- Manuel Trujillo --=-QtAH1iFhHa3YJrqKsAto Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=dmesg_fbsd_5.3-rel.p2.txt Content-Type: text/plain; name=dmesg_fbsd_5.3-rel.p2.txt; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Copyright (c) 1992-2004 The FreeBSD Project. The system uses a VIA Mini-ITX CLE266-based board running FreeBSD 5.4 It has two USB devices: - internal to serial interface - using uftdi/ucom - external port for USB mass storage (flash keychain) Problem #1: - When the USB mass storage device is plugged in before the system is powered on, the internal serial interface doesn't get detected, causing the system to not work. - If the mass storage device is plugged in after the system is booted, it works fine and so does the serial interface. Problem #2: - When the system is booted with both devices installed, neither device gets detected. I need the mass storage device to be detected during startup because it is used for providing software updates to the system, and this will hopefully happen in rc.local. It seems like these two problems are related, but I'm not sure. All I have in my /boot/loader.conf is: uftdi_load="YES" I've tried usb_load, umass_load, etc. with no change. I don't have any entries for the mass storage device (which appears on da0) in my fstab as I am using mtools to access the raw device. Please help! Unfortunately, you haven't provided any useful information. Please have a read of http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/problem-reports/article.html In order to begin investigating this problem, we need to know: - the exact trap message (including the register contents) - the kernel backtrace - Details of your USB hardware (all the USB-related kernel probe messages) Since you state that the system begins dumping, you presumably have a crashdump and can easily extract the first two items above (see: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/developers-handbook/kerneldebug.html http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/developers-handbook/kerneldebug-gdb.html The last item will be in /var/log/messages. -- Peter Jeremy From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 12 00:50:21 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 20C1616A41F for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 00:50:21 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CBEA443D46 for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 00:50:20 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id jAC0oKMq046315 for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 00:50:20 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id jAC0oKdO046314; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 00:50:20 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2005 00:50:20 GMT Message-Id: <200511120050.jAC0oKdO046314@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org From: "Marios Andreou" Cc: Subject: Re: usb/77604: Sluggish Logitch LX700 USB Mouse X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Marios Andreou List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2005 00:50:21 -0000 The following reply was made to PR usb/77604; it has been noted by GNATS. The printer can be made to work on Linux using a Lexmark z600 driver for CUPS, which is a Linux binary and an accompanying .ppd-file. Using the Linux binary on FreeBSD doesn't seem to work: the printing process stalls and can't be killed (hangs in 'D'/uninterruptable-state after a SIGKILL). I've recompiled a kernel with USB_DEBUG turned on and got the following debugging output (hw.usb.debug=1, hw.usb.ulpt.debug=1, hw.usb.uhub.debug=1): uhub_explore: status change hub=1 port=2 usbd_new_device bus=0xc22a9000 port=2 depth=1 speed=2 usbd_new_device: adding unit addr=3, rev=200, class=0, subclass=0, protocol=0, maxpacket=8, len=18, speed=2 usbd_new_device: new dev (addr 3), dev=0xc2c45c00, parent=0xc2360900 usbd_probe_and_attach: trying device specific drivers usbd_probe_and_attach: no device specific driver found usbd_probe_and_attach: looping over 1 configurations usbd_set_config_index: status=0x0001, error=NORMAL_COMPLETION usbd_set_config_index: (addr 1) cno=3 attr=0xc0, selfpowered=1, power=4 usbd_set_config_index: set config 1 ulpt0: Dell Dell Photo Printer 720, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 3, iclass 7/1 ulpt0: using bi-directional mode ulptopen: flags=0x0 usbd_do_request: status = 0x0000 ulpt_open: open input pipe ulpt_open: start read callout ulptopen: done, error=0 ulptread usbd_bulk_transfer: error=13 ulptread: error=13 ulptread This is after a clean boot with the printer detached, then turning debugging on, attaching the printer and starting a print job. After trying to kill the process, the following is logged: usbd_bulk_transfer: tsleep=-1 Can anyone shed some light on this? Can /dev/ulpt* be used with Linux binaries at all, or should I write a wrapper or such? -- Pieter From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 12 13:34:06 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2533F16A41F for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 13:34:06 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from apivovarov@gmail.com) Received: from zproxy.gmail.com (zproxy.gmail.com [64.233.162.195]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6FA0443D46 for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 13:34:04 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from apivovarov@gmail.com) Received: by zproxy.gmail.com with SMTP id 9so370840nzo for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 05:34:03 -0800 (PST) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition; b=Qq4hIdNx4wPOS18659IW1WtnLFDsDketRmXosdle0k6wJlvNMf1RgdfOF6Xo1rLBTgR1uGiXlx7JgvTIxCr8tjWf6pu01Kde9+Z5ZqGRzWWk8A7o10ML8h3CAmzOW3Nl1V5Ge/TJUxK+XAP61QdmlyL/Q56HkULM7xhfeaZ/6wM= Received: by 10.36.101.20 with SMTP id y20mr2233262nzb; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 05:34:03 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.36.118.17 with HTTP; Sat, 12 Nov 2005 05:34:03 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <426b510c0511120534v65d07591j28e51290bf6aa0f8@mail.gmail.com> Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2005 16:34:03 +0300 From: Alex Pivovarov To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org, freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org, freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org, freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline Cc: Subject: (backtrace) cat /dev/ulpt0 -- causes fatal trap 12 X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2005 13:34:06 -0000 running #cat /dev/ulpt0 causes fatal trap 12 and system begins dumping. printer HP LaserJet 1010 USB ----------------------------------------------------------- Script started on Sat Nov 12 16:10:02 2005 alex@st1$ dmesg Copyright (c) 1992-2005 The FreeBSD Project.
