I suffered a similar experience with a G450 PCI. It is my understanding that enabling high resolution modes on the DVI port requires some extra fiddling in the driver, but Matrox provides no documentation on this so XFree86/Xorg can't implement it. Unless you can use the proprietary drivers Matrox provides for some platforms, you're effectively stuck with the analog VGA port. -- Christian "naddy" Weisgerber naddy@mips.inka.de From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 7 23:12:24 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EDAA316A41C for ; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 23:12:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wilkinsa@squash.dsto.defence.gov.au) Received: from digger1.defence.gov.au (digger1.defence.gov.au [203.5.217.4]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1FD0F43D1D for ; Tue, 7 Jun 2005 23:12:23 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wilkinsa@squash.dsto.defence.gov.au) Received: from ednmsw501.dsto.defence.gov.au (ednmsw501.dsto.defence.gov.au [131.185.2.150]) by digger1.defence.gov.au with ESMTP id j57NAeVE022204 for ; Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:40:40 +0930 (CST) Received: from muttley.dsto.defence.gov.au (unverified) by ednmsw501.dsto.defence.gov.au (Content Technologies SMTPRS 4.3.17) with ESMTP id ; Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:42:15 +0930 Received: from ednex501.dsto.defence.gov.au (ednex501.dsto.defence.gov.au [131.185.2.81]) by muttley.dsto.defence.gov.au (8.11.3/8.11.3) with ESMTP id j57N7p032088; Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:37:52 +0930 (CST) Received: from squash.dsto.defence.gov.au ([131.185.40.212]) by ednex501.dsto.defence.gov.au with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2653.13) id J84PT1SH; Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:37:42 +0930 Received: from squash.dsto.defence.gov.au (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by squash.dsto.defence.gov.au (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j57N7wAG071465; Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:37:58 +0930 (CST) (envelope-from wilkinsa@squash.dsto.defence.gov.au) Received: (from wilkinsa@localhost) by squash.dsto.defence.gov.au (8.13.3/8.13.3/Submit) id j57N7vJu071464; Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:37:57 +0930 (CST) (envelope-from wilkinsa) Date: Wed, 8 Jun 2005 08:37:57 +0930 From: "Wilkinson, Alex" To: Christian Weisgerber Message-ID: <20050607230756.GF71217@squash.dsto.defence.gov.au> References: <200506032023.13511.c47g@gmx.at> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.9i Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Help needed: connecting DVI TFT monitor to MGA G550 card X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 07 Jun 2005 23:12:25 -0000 0n Tue, Jun 07, 2005 at 11:50:52AM +0000, Christian Weisgerber wrote: >Christian Gusenbauer wrote: > >> Hmm, it seems to be so simple: take a DVI cable, connect it with the monitor >> and the G550 card, start FreeBSD (current), change some settings in the >> xorg.conf file and then start X. >> >> Well, I failed miserably :-(. >> >> The only resolutions working are 800x600 and 640x480 but the 1280x1024 I'd >> like to get does not work. > >I suffered a similar experience with a G450 PCI. It seems, that the Xorg's mkfontdir will list both *.bdf and *.pcf versions of the same file in the generated fonts.dir This is contrary to the manual page and the old behavior. For example, the x11-fonts/gemini-fonts port creates PCF files from BDF sources and then runs mkfontdir to create fonts.dir. With XFree86's mkfontdir the file will begin with the number 68 and list the PCFs only -- as per the mkfontdir(1). With Xorg's, the file begins with 136 and each font ends up listed twice: [...] gem1c.bdf -gemini-courier-medium-r-normal--8-80-75-75-m-50-koi8-u gem1c.pcf.gz -gemini-courier-medium-r-normal--8-80-75-75-m-50-koi8-u gem1cb.bdf -gemini-courier-bold-r-normal--8-80-75-75-m-50-koi8-u gem1cb.pcf.gz -gemini-courier-bold-r-normal--8-80-75-75-m-50-koi8-u [...] Is this something, I should only talk about with the Xorg people? I had manually installed the latest nvidia-drivers 7114 and everything seemed to work just okey. I was using opengl applications (and i had written a couple small ones for educational purposes). Suddenly today while i was trying to use some apps like mupen64 or zsnes , i had my xorg server killed with signal 6 and no further messages in the logs except for these: Jun 11 23:01:29 bifteki kernel: pid 28726 (Xorg), uid 0: exited on signal 6 Also when the crash happens in the ttyv0 i have a message that the server died on signal 11. (sorry no paste for this one) Last but not least , the same thing happens when i run glxinfo. I'm going to attach some my Xorg.log with this email for anyone wanting to help me out.
