This causes X to die rather abruptly when trying to dereference this symbol: http://people.freebsd.org/~mezz/gdb/gdb-freetype2.txt I assume this was done by design in FT (though I couldn't find a commit message that said spoke about this particular change). If so, what should X be doing to correctly obtain the glyph sbit? Thanks! (this even includes the usb chips too) I think I can see how to add this to the radeon driver but am not totally sure... I presume it has to be in either agp or drm also? I'm having trouble getting a few other things recognized too (TI sd/xd/ms reader, and the sound (conexant :-() (and the broadcom wireless which I may just replace with an atheros since it is a minipci...) This should help you if you've got an r300 card, and do nothing otherwise. If it does something otherwise, please tell me! Any reports of regressions with this patch applied are important, because I'm hoping to MFC it. Remember, if you want r300 DRI support, you need all three latest bits: this new DRM stuff, xorg-server-snap, and the latest dri-devel port. --=20 Eric Anholt eta@lclark.edu http://people.freebsd.org/~anholt/ anholt@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jul 21 00:05:00 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5A88316A423 for ; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 00:05:00 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from anuket.mj.niksun.com (gwnew.niksun.com [65.115.46.162]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2424043D48 for ; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 00:04:50 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from niksun.com (anuket [10.70.0.5]) by anuket.mj.niksun.com (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j6L06VYN028718; Wed, 20 Jul 2005 20:06:31 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) From: Jung-uk Kim To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2005 20:04:20 -0400 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 References: <20050719100314.GA20584@users.altadena.net> In-Reply-To: <20050719100314.GA20584@users.altadena.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Message-Id: <200507202004.23055.jkim@FreeBSD.org> X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV version 0.85.1, clamav-milter version 0.85 on anuket.mj.niksun.com X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: Pete Carah Subject: Re: New compaq, new radeon id X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 00:05:00 -0000 On Tuesday 19 July 2005 06:03 am, Pete Carah wrote: > I have a new compaq (AMD64 Turion) with what is supposedly a mobile > radeon 9200. Actually, if you just want 2d, xorg-server-snap should support it. For 3D, I'm guessing that, like other RS* chipsets, it's going to need agp_ati.c to work. agp_ati.c should be nearly working (see i386/75251), I'm guessing there's just some bug left to be fixed, probably by someone with hardware. --=20 Eric Anholt eta@lclark.edu http://people.freebsd.org/~anholt/ anholt@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jul 21 00:18:01 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D056716A43A for ; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 00:18:01 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from anuket.mj.niksun.com (gwnew.niksun.com [65.115.46.162]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 61B3743D82 for ; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 00:17:50 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from niksun.com (anuket [10.70.0.5]) by anuket.mj.niksun.com (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id j6L0JZ7o028907; Wed, 20 Jul 2005 20:19:35 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) From: Jung-uk Kim To: Eric Anholt Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2005 20:17:25 -0400 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 References: <20050719100314.GA20584@users.altadena.net> <200507202004.23055.jkim@FreeBSD.org> <1121904708.4260.51.camel@leguin> In-Reply-To: <1121904708.4260.51.camel@leguin> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200507202017.27570.jkim@FreeBSD.org> X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV version 0.85.1, clamav-milter version 0.85 on anuket.mj.niksun.com X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org, Pete Carah Subject: Re: New compaq, new radeon id X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 00:18:02 -0000 On Wednesday 20 July 2005 08:11 pm, Eric Anholt wrote: > > If you just want 2D, you have to patch xorg-server. It is now recognized, and X -probeonly appears to work but if I try to actually bring up anything in a real X server the system waits about a second then reboots. (hard to debug that kind of thing without an ICE :-( (and I don't even know if ICE's exist for A64's) (and further, I couldn't possibly afford one if they do exist :-(. Patching drm to recognize the chip is easy; I did this but only got reboots whenever I tried X (note, however, that I get them without this patch too). I don't know if just recognition is adequate or there needs to be something else done too? > For 3D, I'm guessing that, like other RS* chipsets, it's going to need > agp_ati.c to work. agp_ati.c should be nearly working (see i386/75251), > I'm guessing there's just some bug left to be fixed, probably by someone > with hardware. agp_amd64 has no ATI stuff mentioned in the source; only nvidia, AMD, and via. I don't konw about agp_ati For now I'll wait somewhat patiently (or look and see if agp_ati is remotely near. It isn't in my source tree (cvsup HEAD as of early tonight)). -- Pete From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jul 21 09:22:51 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: x11@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0769E16A41F for ; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 09:22:51 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from pete@users.altadena.net) Received: from users.altadena.net (users.altadena.net [207.151.161.11]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8A72143D49 for ; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 09:22:50 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from pete@users.altadena.net) Received: from pete by users.altadena.net with local (Exim 4.51) id 1DvXGU-0001WR-Aa; Thu, 21 Jul 2005 02:22:50 -0700 Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 02:22:50 -0700 From: Pete Carah To: Eric Anholt Message-ID: <20050721092250.GB5341@users.altadena.net> References: <20050719100314.GA20584@users.altadena.net> <200507202004.23055.jkim@FreeBSD.org> <1121904708.4260.51.camel@leguin> <200507202017.27570.jkim@FreeBSD.org> <1121906078.4260.53.camel@leguin> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <1121906078.4260.53.camel@leguin> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Sender: Pete Carah Cc: x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: New compaq, new radeon id X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2005 09:22:51 -0000 On Wed, Jul 20, 2005 at 05:34:38PM -0700, Eric Anholt wrote: > On Wed, 2005-07-20 at 20:17 -0400, Jung-uk Kim wrote: > > On Wednesday 20 July 2005 08:11 pm, Eric Anholt wrote: > > > > If you just want 2D, you have to patch xorg-server. And dmesg for boot_verbose doesn't mention either agp or drm, as it is. (from cvsup about 6pm this past evening.) It looks as though the ethernet and most other things work (and I'm pretty sure the graphics can be made to work), but your comment about the sound was a bit of a red flag. (I don't really want my main workstation to be sans sound!) I took a look around for chip id 0x43701002 and found that it seems to be some variant of an ALC658 (conexant would be the modem, I believe): http://docs.FreeBSD.org/cgi/mid.cgi?20050505133757.2adacb8f.torfinn.ingolfsen I found a site by some fellow in France who has another notebook with the same motherboard and his linux distribution is using the ac97 codec: http://www.starynkevitch.net/Basile/msi_s270_linux.html Hopefully this points you in the right direction?
