I'm trying to get DRI working under Linux emulation but it fails. I'm using linux_base-fc3 right now, but with linux_base-8 it was the same. I guess there's some conflict between linux_dri-4.4.0 and linux-XFree86-libs-4.3.99.902_7. Linux's libGL fails with: 'DDX DRI driver expected R200 version 4.0.x but got version 5.0.3' Details below. In FreeBSD DRI is working, the video card is Radeon 9000Pro and it is using radeon driver. Any help appreciated. XFree86 4.3.99 is too legacy to support many current pieces of software. At the same time, Linux module in FreeBSD kernel should also be upgraded to keep up with Linus Torvalds. Currently, too much Linux system calls haven't been supported by FreeBSD kernel yet. I am learning the programming environment of FreeBSD kernel to make my own contribution to the module. We need such a commit to improve our linux rpm infrastructure. After that the linux X.org libs will enter the tree. > At the same time, Linux module in FreeBSD kernel should also be > upgraded to keep up with Linus Torvalds. Currently, too much Linux > system calls haven't been supported by FreeBSD kernel yet. Nobody invested time into this so far... A start would be to look at http://fxr.watson.org/fxr/source//arch/x86_64/ia32/ia32entry.S?v=linux-2.6.11.8 and to add the names of missing syscalls to src/sys/i386/linux/syscalls.master and src/sys/amd64/linux32/syscalls.master (have a look at e.g. the linux_get_thread_area line in syscalls.master for an example how to do it). This can also be done by someone without much knowledge about the FreeBSD kernel. The second step would then be to pick one of those UNIMPL functions and implement it in src/sys/compat/linux/. > I am learning the programming environment of FreeBSD kernel to make > my own contribution to the module. You're welcome. If you want to test it, here you are. All needed patches are at the attachments. The first one is a new port: 1. uudecode attachment 2. copy to ports/x11 2. cd ports/X11 3. tar xyvf linux-xorg-libs.tar.bz2 The second and third are patches for ports/Mk: 1. cd ports/Mk 2. patch < _two_patches_ The second patch prepares bsd.linux-rpm.mk and the third one makes linux-xorg-libs the default port for x11 libraries with linuxolator. All those patches are tested with linux_base-fc3 port. Then you may try to install a new port or replace an old one, say by "portupgrade -o x11/linux-xorg-libs linux-XFree86-libs". Any feedback is appreciated. > At the same time, Linux module in FreeBSD kernel should also be > upgraded to keep up with Linus Torvalds. Host and guest are both FreeBSD. Since the server is headless, I have to run qemu with the -nographic switch. Basically that shouldn't be a problem, because we're not using graphical applications. However, for out-of-band management, there must be a way to connect to the console of the guest system. According to the docs, "-serial stdio" should do the trick. But it does not, it's simply dead (no output). Then I tried "-serial file:foo", just to see if anything appears, but the file is just one byte which is zero. :-( In the guest, I have enabled it in /etc/ttys: ttyd0 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" vt100 on secure And /dev/ttyd0 exists: crw------- 1 root wheel 0, 55 Apr 5 15:57 ttyd0 And the getty is indeed running: 417 ?? I 0:00.02 /usr/libexec/getty std.9600 ttyd0 But the tty is reported as "??". Shouldn't that be "d0"? There are no error messages in any log file or dmesg. The virtual serial port is detected fine in the guest: sio0 at port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4 flags 0x10 on isa0 sio0: type 16450 Am I doing anything wrong? What do I miss? "GB" is the abbreviation of "Guo Biao", which is the Latin pronounciation of a Chinese word standing for "National Standard". The Chinese character pronounced as "Guo" often means "nation", "state", or "country". And the Chinese character pronounced as "Biao" often means "standard", "target", "flag" or "mark". I often set my MUA with GB2312 encoding. Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual ports with problems are devel/linux-libglade,devel/linux_devtools,graphics/linux-ungif. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* send your response to me directly; I do not necessarily have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the updated port on your own machine, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port updated-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use a search engine to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner.
