Apart from that, the situation you are describing is not any helpful at all. I dont think you did any proper preparation before trying to do any serious freebsd work. What "other" problems did you have? Thanx. I got past the error that Sean was getting. I missed replacing an x86_64 to amd64 tag in the patch-build file. After working on it this weekend I found a couple of changes needed to the post-patch-plugins-swt-gtk-build.sh for the amd64 platform. Beyond that It builds successfully but it now crashes on startup. The splash screen shows for a few seconds and then it dies. Below is the stack trace that I am currently working on. If anyone knows why this error occurs on amd64 only please let me, it would save some time debugging it. !SESSION 2006-08-07 03:48:40.561 ----------------------------------------------- eclipse.buildId=M20060629-1905 java.version=1.5.0 java.vendor=Sun Microsystems Inc. From what I could find searching the net, this problem in the past had to due with the "SWT_PTR_CFLAGS=-DSWT_PTR_SIZE_64" not being set which changes the signature for the callback. I am setting this flag but it still fails with the same error. Here is what I get on x86 using "javap -classpath swt.jar -c org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display" static int fixedClassInitProc(int, int); 205: putstatic #815; //Field fixedClassInitProc:I 208: getstatic #815; //Field fixedClassInitProc:I Here is what I get on amd64 using "javap -classpath swt.jar -c org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display" static long fixedClassInitProc(long, long); 214: putstatic #822; //Field fixedClassInitProc:J 217: getstatic #822; //Field fixedClassInitProc:J As you can see the signature has changed as it should for the amd64 build from the x86 build. On amd64 it takes two long parameters and returns a long as it should. These checks were done in the work directory for the build. I will check when I get home tonight to see if the swt.jar that actually installs is correct. Maybe its just deploying the wrong one for the amd64 platform. Just install diablo-jdk-1.5.0 and then use jdk-1.4.2/diablo-jdk-1.5.0 depending on the specific app. You can use /usr/local/etc/javavms and javavmwrapper to control which java you want to run. check pkg_info -L javavmwrapper-2.3 for a list of commands/man pages relating to javavmwrapper. > > > Robert Huff > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-java@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-java > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-java-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" > -- -Achilleus From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Aug 9 07:44:47 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0B64816A4DA for ; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 07:44:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from girgen@FreeBSD.org) Received: from banan.pingpong.net (banan.pingpong.net [213.136.40.205]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 53A0243D4C for ; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 07:44:45 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from girgen@FreeBSD.org) Received: from rambutan.pingpong.net (rambutan.pingpong.net [192.168.1.187]) by banan.pingpong.net (8.13.6/8.13.6) with ESMTP id k797iPhD024807; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 09:44:25 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from girgen@FreeBSD.org) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by rambutan.pingpong.net (8.13.6/8.13.6) with ESMTP id k797iOQm026343; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 09:44:25 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from girgen@FreeBSD.org) Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2006 09:44:23 +0200 From: Palle Girgensohn To: Greg Lewis , martinko Message-ID: In-Reply-To: <20060714213224.GA60242@misty.eyesbeyond.com> References: <20060712164955.GA91888@misty.eyesbeyond.com> <44B796AE.4030506@nipsi.de> <44B7ED5C.8040102@pobox.sk> <20060714213224.GA60242@misty.eyesbeyond.com> X-Mailer: Mulberry/3.1.6 (Linux/x86) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Cc: Massimo Lusetti , Dennis Berger , freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: New JDK release X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2006 07:44:47 -0000 --On fredag, juli 14, 2006 14.32.24 -0700 Greg Lewis wrote: > On Fri, Jul 14, 2006 at 09:15:40PM +0200, martinko wrote: >> i did so and portversion says: >> >> diablo-jdk-freebsd6.i386.1.5.0.07.00 < needs updating (port has >> 1.5.0.07.00) >> >> what's wrong ?? > > Nothings wrong, the packages just have a "version" which is a little > bit naughty and ends up comparing to the port (which isn't naughty) > as an earlier version. Just curious, what is the reason behind having different package names for the port versus the package. It seems confusing to me. Also, since the port just installs a binary, couldn't it just install the package? It would cause less confusion, don't you think? Give it another try. After I fixed the "SWT_PTR_CFLAGS=-DSWT_PTR_SIZE_64" I was still having the same error. After a lot of debugging in the C and Java code it was found that a 32bit swt library was being loaded. Eclipse on initial startup copies the swt library to your //.eclipse directory from the eclipse install directory. So when I tried to run it before patching the "SWT_PTR_CFLAGS=-DSWT_PTR_SIZE_64" flag it copied the broken swt library into that directory. After deleting the //.eclipse directory and starting eclipse again it copied the right (fixed) swt library over. This library is a shared object so I am not sure why it needs to place a copy in the users home directory. Anyways, When you try the new eclipse.shar file you should also delete your //.eclipse directory to make sure any old broken libraries are removed so the new ones will be placed there. Let me know if you have any problems. http://www.freshdevonrails.com/eclipse.shar From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Aug 11 14:31:42 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B8C2916A4E0 for ; Fri, 11 Aug 2006 14:31:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ken@tydfam.jp) Received: from daemon.sub.tydfam.jp (ns.tydfam.jp [61.197.228.42]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3FC1543D46 for ; Fri, 11 Aug 2006 14:31:41 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ken@tydfam.jp) Received: from localhost (tyd3.sub.tydfam.jp [192.168.1.3]) by daemon.sub.tydfam.jp (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k7BEV8Qo099024; Fri, 11 Aug 2006 23:31:11 +0900 (JST) (envelope-from ken@tydfam.jp) Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2006 23:31:12 +0900 (JST) Message-Id: <20060811.233112.343186357.ken@tydfam.jp> To: dsledge@appriss.com From: Yamada Ken Takeshi In-Reply-To: <44DB59EA.9010408@appriss.com> References: <1154971404.1679.2.camel@triton.mcneil.com> <44D8BA80.3050403@appriss.com> <44DB59EA.9010408@appriss.com> X-Mailer: Mew version 4.2 on XEmacs 21.4.19 (Constant Variable) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.6 required=8.0 tests=CONTENT_TYPE_PRESENT, J_CHICKENPOX_74,X_MAILER_PRESENT autolearn=no version=3.1.1 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.1.1 (2006-03-10) on daemon.sub.tydfam.jp Cc: ronald-freebsd8@klop.yi.org, freebsd-java@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Q) eclipse 3.2 (Callisto) X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2006 14:31:42 -0000 I have a question with your eclipse.shar. Callisto is supposed to load cdt/gef/... after installing the base eclipse 3.2 from update site "http://download.eclipse.org/callisto/releases". However, if I try to update eclipse using "Software Update", this port returns "Resulting configuration does not contain the platform" and I cannot install these plugins from update site. Is it because of my inappropriate installation or something missing? I think that we do not need some of eclipse-* ports once we successfully port eclipse 3.2 Callisto - I mean that existing eclipse-* can remain as it is by strictly defining that they are for 3.1.2 ONLY. Often, these ports are so marked due to security concerns, such as known exploits. An overview of the port, including errors seen on the build farm, is included below. portname: java/linux-blackdown-jdk13 forbidden because: Vulnerabilities in the browser plugin build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=java&portname=linux-blackdown-jdk13 portname: java/linux-ibm-jdk13 forbidden because: Vulnerabilities in the browser plugin build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=java&portname=linux-ibm-jdk13 If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. On the other hand, if you no longer wish to maintain this port (or ports), please reply with a message stating that, and accept our thanks for your efforts in the past. Thanks for your efforts to help improve FreeBSD.
