If Oliver is right, we should include attributions for all used trademarks, which would make the footer pretty large. If that's legally required, may it be, but it's more and more pain. But I need clear guidelines of what to do. I will not make any further changes until this issue is discussed and settled. It wasn't my place to assume the requirements for proper UNIX attribution. I based my comment on what our lawyer recommended for our trademarks. And, I realize now, this is not standard protocol. When using the FreeBSD mark, as outlined in item 6 of the Trademark Terms and Conditions, the trademark symbol needs to follow all prominent uses of the mark. This is why I stated, the first use of FreeBSD should have the symbol, but the subsequent uses don't need it, per the Foundation's requirements. Thanks again for your help on this issue. I use firefox-1.5.0.7_1,1 built from ports collection. On the first try I tried to attach a traceroute.c.diff file but got following error message: There is an error with your problem report submission. The problem was: Patch file has wrong content type. On the second try I just copyied/pasted the contents of that file to the "Fix to the problem if known:" text input area and succesfully submitted following PR: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=104746 I don't know what content type Firefox uses when it is sending a diff file, but it is a common filename extension of a patch file and it should work. Sorry, this is a bit long, but needs to be done. for perfection. I am using gui browser, firefox. my display is 1024x768. The english version of the site has the 'section' coded as:
....
on the same level with the logo "the power to serve", which looks OK. The "TOPNAV" div is in the grey area - so far so good. OTOH, the russian version has this
inside the gray stripe with the "tool bar", which is coded as:
Observations: This may be due to the translation of all the words in "SEARCHNAV", e.g. "Contact" is translated as "Contact Information", which is correct, but long, and can be translated as "Contacts", besides in the topnav some expressions too are translated into long versions, e.g.: "Support" is translated into "podderzhka", and it can be "pomosh"="Help". A bit different, but this is shorter, and is clear too and another long one: "Get FreeBSD" is translated as "Receive FreeBSD", and it can be "Dostat' FreeBSD", so, basically either there is a need to make a special russian stylesheet ( decrease fonts/rearrange the divs ) or to optimize russian translation, with specific width limits on misc elements, Best regards, Max. Besides that this is not the proper way to ask for hardware support. You should defer to http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-hackers and request the support there. If you encounter something else though, please give a detailed question, a detailed problem report etc, since the current one just lacks all kind of information to be usefull at all. Thanks for the understanding. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=104828 From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Oct 26 22:34:04 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: www@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4A28416A40F; Thu, 26 Oct 2006 22:34:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ceri@submonkey.net) Received: from shrike.submonkey.net (cpc2-cdif2-0-0-cust107.cdif.cable.ntl.com [81.104.168.108]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B470143D45; Thu, 26 Oct 2006 22:34:03 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ceri@submonkey.net) Received: from ceri by shrike.submonkey.net with local (Exim 4.63 (FreeBSD)) (envelope-from ) id 1GdDnS-000DEM-A3; Thu, 26 Oct 2006 23:33:58 +0100 Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2006 23:33:58 +0100 From: Ceri Davies To: Peer Schaefer Message-ID: <20061026223358.GA1690@submonkey.net> Mail-Followup-To: Ceri Davies , Peer Schaefer , Deb Goodkin , www@freebsd.org, freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org References: <453347E8.2020008@hamburg.de> <20061017185934.GA97353@submonkey.net> <45392216.9080503@freebsd.org> <453C4A96.10605@hamburg.de> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="SLDf9lqlvOQaIe6s" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <453C4A96.10605@hamburg.de> X-PGP: finger ceri@FreeBSD.org User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.13 (2006-08-11) Sender: Ceri Davies Cc: freebsd-advocacy@freebsd.org, www@freebsd.org, Deb Goodkin Subject: Re: CDROM-Artwork X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2006 22:34:04 -0000 --SLDf9lqlvOQaIe6s Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Thanks very much Peer, and apologies for both the run-around and for consistently spelling your name wrong. How about putting a couple of 75dpi thumbnails on the logo page on the website and the rest on a FTP site? One CDROM-label, CDROM-sleeve and DVD-case showing for example FreeBSD/i386 should be enough. The thumbnails can be links to the FTP site with the rest of the stuff. Something like this perhaps: http://people.freebsd.org/~joel/files/logo1.png http://people.freebsd.org/~joel/files/logo2.png -- Joel From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 27 08:39:38 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: www@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E51EA16A403; Fri, 27 Oct 2006 08:39:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from simon@zaphod.nitro.dk) Received: from mx.nitro.dk (zarniwoop.nitro.dk [83.92.207.38]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 63BE843D49; Fri, 27 Oct 2006 08:39:38 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from simon@zaphod.nitro.dk) Received: from zaphod.nitro.dk (unknown [192.168.3.39]) by mx.nitro.dk (Postfix) with ESMTP id 94F3A386C09; Fri, 27 Oct 2006 08:39:37 +0000 (UTC) Received: by zaphod.nitro.dk (Postfix, from userid 3000) id EF48111434; Fri, 27 Oct 2006 10:39:37 +0200 (CEST) Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2006 10:39:37 +0200 From: "Simon L.
