These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. r - repocopy The resolution of the problem report is dependent on a repocopy operation within the CVS repository which is awaiting completion. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. IMHO the main problem with localized man pages is that they are *always* out of date and incomplete. man pages tend to change often and localized version lag behind. As I see, the Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Italian documentation set is also pretty outdated. Not speaking about those who don't even have the webpage translated. Some Linux distributions succeeded with keeping them up-to-date, so I'm more optimistic about this and I'm willing to help maintining them with Miklos, our new contributor. This is a just an opportunity, users can always return to use English ones if they are unsatisfied with the quality of the translated documents. -- Gabor Kovesdan FreeBSD Volunteer EMAIL: gabor@FreeBSD.org .:|:. gabor@kovesdan.org WEB: http://people.FreeBSD.org/~gabor .:|:. http://kovesdan.org From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Oct 29 22:50:05 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CFFAB16A420; Mon, 29 Oct 2007 22:50:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gabor@FreeBSD.org) Received: from server.t-hosting.hu (server.t-hosting.hu [81.2.252.59]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5746813C481; Mon, 29 Oct 2007 22:50:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gabor@FreeBSD.org) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by server.t-hosting.hu (Postfix) with ESMTP id EBFB9A4A9F4; Mon, 29 Oct 2007 23:49:46 +0100 (CET) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at t-hosting.hu Received: from server.t-hosting.hu ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (server.t-hosting.hu [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id 7h2kGbB+-s-q; Mon, 29 Oct 2007 23:49:38 +0100 (CET) Received: from [192.168.2.186] (catv-5063f539.catv.broadband.hu [80.99.245.57]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by server.t-hosting.hu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 774E0A4A9E9; Mon, 29 Oct 2007 23:49:38 +0100 (CET) Message-ID: <47266381.9000202@FreeBSD.org> Date: Mon, 29 Oct 2007 23:49:37 +0100 From: Gabor Kovesdan User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 (Windows/20070728) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Hiroki Sato References: <20071026175650.GA1074@gothic.blackend.org> <47226158.4070304@FreeBSD.org> <20071027065754.GA1015@gothic.blackend.org> <20071027.192116.230183501.hrs@allbsd.org> In-Reply-To: <20071027.192116.230183501.hrs@allbsd.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Cc: ru@FreeBSD.org, doc@FreeBSD.org, blackend@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: localized man pages X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 29 Oct 2007 22:50:05 -0000 Hiroki Sato escribió: > Marc Fonvieille wrote > in <20071027065754.GA1015@gothic.blackend.org>: > > bl> > Ubuntu Linux uses groff 1.18.1 and has some Hungarian manual pages. So, as Miklos wrote it works fine with that small patch he sent, the pager does not have any problems either. If there's no objection with this in mind, I'd like to commit our first translations soon. I'd like to ask for approval from an src committer to commit that little patch and commit some man pages. I think it is no problem with adding localized manual pages but before that it needs toolchain which supports various languages in a consistent way as well as some framework for informing that "this is out-of-date" to the users in some way. I read the general documentation to have an overview, I read the man pages to know exactly what does the X flag. Outdated documentation is not an issue like an outdated man page. Man pages are and need to be very specific. Wrong (or incomplete) specific information is very bad. Not having the GELI section in the translated handbook is a completely different case. Yes, this is the only solution. An automated way to display on top of the translated man page that's outdated, and a simple way to display the english one (or vice-versa). -- Alex Dupre From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 30 14:28:07 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 465D816A417; Tue, 30 Oct 2007 14:28:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkois@FreeBSD.org) Received: from tux15.hoststar.at (tux15.hoststar.at [213.239.217.242]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 644ED13C48A; Tue, 30 Oct 2007 14:28:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkois@FreeBSD.org) Received: from pcbsd.lan (M1930P030.adsl.highway.telekom.at [80.121.113.62]) by tux15.hoststar.at (8.13.6/8.12.11) with ESMTP id l9UEAauJ003878 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Tue, 30 Oct 2007 15:10:37 +0100 From: Johann Kois To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org, bh@izb.knu.ac.kr Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 15:10:24 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.9.7 References: <1193726314.2956.4.camel@viola.izb.knu.ac.kr> In-Reply-To: <1193726314.2956.4.camel@viola.izb.knu.ac.kr> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="nextPart18092945.jelagqpqrR"; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg=pgp-sha1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200710301510.34859.jkois@FreeBSD.org> Cc: doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: Q: Where do I get FreeBSD Handbook as PDF version?
