It's 6 years old, looks like FreeBSD 4.something, using APM rather than ACPI. The T23 has quite different hardware throughout than the T20, and none of the tweaks mentioned were needed by the time I installed FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE / GENERIC anyway. Sound (ICH3/AC97) works fine on my T23, and I doubt it's regressed on 7.x (but expect to soon find out :) However there may be some clues on the (only) FLCL T20 listing/thread: http://laptop.bsdgroup.de/freebsd/index.html?action=show_laptop_detail&laptop=1 which initially suggested (suspend/resume) problems needing a patch for csa, but these were then said to have been fixed by FreeBSD 5.2 or so .. My fairly new Intel board has two High Def sound devices onboard. One 82801I device and an ATI HDMI device. The 82801I device uses a Realtek ALC888 codec which snd_hda picks up fine. The ATI device uses an unknown codec. If snd_hda is enabled via loader.conf it assigns the 82801I pcm1 and the ATI pcm0. If snd_hda is loaded manually after bootup the pcm unit numbers get assigned in reverse. The annoying part is that if snd_hda is enabled via loader.conf the 82801I (pcm1) is unusable: # dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/dsp1 bs=64 count=100 pcm1:virtual:dsp1.vp0: play interrupt timeout, channel dead dd: /dev/dsp1: Invalid argument 65+0 records in 64+0 records out 4096 bytes transferred in 5.032943 secs (814 bytes/sec) The only way to get it working is to load snd_hda manually after bootup. This is on an Intel DG33BU board. I suspect this might trip more people up in future with HDMI adoption becoming popular now. Any ideas on a fix? I'm having difficulty getting either the pvr250 or pvrxxx ports to work. The pvr250 port compiled no problem, but it didn't support my 0x75 tuner code out the box. My tuner has "FM1216ME/I H-5" printed on it. Closest I could find to that in the driver was FM1216ME Mk3 so I added a case for 0x75 just above 0x39 in cxm_eeprom.c and recompiled. It now detects my tuner and the cxm driver attaches: May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: mem 0xf4000000-0xf7ffffff irq 10 at device 4.0 on pci5 May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm_iic0: on cxm0 May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: iicbb0: on cxm_iic0 May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: iicbus0: on iicbb0 master-only May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: iicbus0: at addr 0 May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: iicbus0: at addr 0 May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: Philips FM1216ME MK3 tuner May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: SAA7115 rev 1 video decoder May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: MSP4418G-B3 audio decoder May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: IR Remote May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: [GIANT-LOCKED] May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: [ITHREAD] May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: encoder firmware version 0x2050032 May 15 18:42:01 geek kernel: cxm0: decoder firmware version 0x2020023 But I'm not able to read a video stream off it. It has nothing to do with the "panning and fast movement" artifacts that occur with bktr and cxm video decoders, especially when scaled down to sizes divisable by 16. As I understand it, this is the result of a poor comb filter. Ffmpeg's deinterlace function eliminates this problem completely on my PVR-150 (using kbtv2's backend which is almost the same as ffplay). > > >> > > >>i observed something strange on 7.0 with this driver. mplayer is now > > >>able to sync a/v properly when doing "mplayer /dev/cxm0". i would > > >>like > > >>to hear from others about this. > > >> > > >>regards, > > >> > > >>usleepless > > Thanks for the update! > > The new port compiles and installs fine. With my ffcxm backend for kbtv, I have basically turned ffplay into a library and added some simple stuff (to fit into backend api). One thing I noticed is that the only way to keep a/v in sync is to call the ffcxm event code as soon as possible rather than in line with the video frame rate as I was doing earlier. Considering that ffmpeg/ffplay is multithreaded (but with some internally fixed parameters, some of which I may have also made a bit more agressive in my ffcxm), this is only logical. So I think it's quite possible that what you're seeing is merely an improvement in mplayer, in the way they use ffmpeg or in their thread handling or both, not a necessarily a difference between FreeBSD 6 and 7. I haven't looked at mplayer's source code recently. I can say that kbtv2+cxm performed somewhat better on my i386 (fbsd6) and amd64 (fbsd7) machine than mplayer did, but that's a while ago ~3 months. That is unless you are using the same (old) mplayer than you were using before. In that case I don't know why you're seeing this difference. Maybe they've updated the PVR-350 line to use the same decoder as the 150/500 cards? I did test it very briefly from a Xubuntu livecd and it was working to the point of atleast getting snow in mplayer. I'll try it again and make a note of linux's dmesg output - might be helpful. I've submitted update for gnash port to 0.8.2 (see http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=123708). We still have some time before it's comitted so I'd ask everione interested in this port to test it. For me it seems like 0.8.2 is a regression compared to 0.8.1. I don't see that either 0.8.2 or gnash CVS support more flash clips that 0.8.1 didn't support. Instead many youtube videos won't play any more and fast OpenGL renderer seems broken (please confirm it). So, as I don't know many flash-enabled sites, I will be happy to listen for your opinions on 0.8.1 vs 0.8.2. graphics/gnash-devel port with recent CVS snapshot will be added without question, so given that graphics/gnash may be left at 0.8.1 for now if upgrade to 0.8.2 brings less than it takes. -- Dmitry A. I attempted to use it but got much better results using AGG. I believe that it should be classified as experimental, like the Cairo renderer is. > So, as I don't know many flash-enabled sites, I will be happy to > listen for your opinions on 0.8.1 vs 0.8.2. graphics/gnash-devel > port with recent CVS snapshot will be added without question, so > given that graphics/gnash may be left at 0.8.1 for now if upgrade > to 0.8.2 brings less than it takes. Both 0.8.2 and devel versions successfully render videos of some sites where 0.8.1 failed when I tested. This one, for example: http://charges.uol.com.br/ I noticed that video rendering lags behind audio with 0.8.2 and devel. It seems that video rendering with AGG is not fast enough, so I will try to improve the performance by trimming some compilation parameters. -- Carlos A. Pardon my joy. :) I finally got it working! This was the problem: > [ 87.467457] ivtv0: Unreasonably low latency timer, setting to 64 (was 32) > [ 87.986897] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1b.0 to 64 My BIOS default PCI Latency timer setting is 32. I saw this log entry and thought to try adjust it to 64 in the BIOS. I confirmed with linux again and dmesg showed that ivtv did not adjust it after I made the BIOS change and it still worked in Linux. Loaded up BSD and presto - cxm works now! And 'mplayer /dev/cxm0' is working here too. Awesome! :) So I guess someone should make a note in the port that the PCI Latency timer BIOS setting must be 64? Maybe I'm the first of many to hit this. I guess ideally the driver should correct it as with linux, but if not hopefully this post helps others. I am running an Intel DG33BU motherboard BTW. Got some more experimenting to do. Need to figure out all my channel frequencies now. Should be fun. :) Thanks all for your time and help. Thanks usleep for keeping this driver updated! Older X's didn't really care much and did whatever the config file said. I don't have any old X installs lying around to prove that one way or the other unfortunately. Have you tried using xrandr ( /usr/ports/x11/xrandr ) to see if you can reduce the resultion? It'll probably even work from .xinitrc or .xsession /usr/local/bin/xrandr -mode 800x600 -fb 1280x1024 I think should do what you want. (note that this would be much better over on freebsd-x11 - this is an X problem, not a multimedia problem - Reply-to set appropriately) Gary From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 17 00:13:51 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9AFE71065674 for ; Sat, 17 May 2008 00:13:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from zb@ispid.com.pl) Received: from v005705.home.net.pl (v005705.home.net.pl [212.85.118.117]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id D32198FC0A for ; Sat, 17 May 2008 00:13:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from zb@ispid.com.pl) Received: from 444.net.autocom.pl (HELO localhost) (zb.ispid@onet@77.236.6.157) by m022.home.net.pl with SMTP; Sat, 17 May 2008 00:13:47 -0000 Date: Sat, 17 May 2008 02:13:57 +0200 From: Zbigniew Baniewski To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20080517001357.GA21271@sarge.my.own.domain.no-net> References: <20080510131932.GA5444@sarge.my.own.domain.no-net> <200805102123.22952.shoesoft@gmx.net> <20080510193445.GA6432@sarge.my.own.domain.no-net> <200805110923.40726.shoesoft@gmx.net> <20080511095201.GA5278@sarge.my.own.domain.no-net> <20080513003603.GA11033@in-addr.com> <20080513123930.GA10693@sarge.my.own.domain.no-net> <20080516232738.GA63463@in-addr.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-2 Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20080516232738.GA63463@in-addr.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.13 (2006-08-11) Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD7/xorg/radeon: Section "Screen" totally ignored X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 17 May 2008 00:13:51 -0000 On Fri, May 16, 2008 at 07:27:38PM -0400, Gary Palmer wrote: > I suspect what you're seeing is that X tries much harder now to > give the best display on a given monitor. The lag happens when I use the browser plugin, not the standalone player. For example, running /usr/local/bin/gtk-gnash /tmp/video.swf works flawlessly, but opening firefox and browsing to file:///tmp/video.swf I get unsynchronized video and audio. -- Carlos A.
