I believe this information may be useful to others, so I have written an article outlining the necessary steps. Comments and criticisms alike are welcome, as I plan to submit a patch for inclusion into the official Documentation. Normally, I would include a patch, but my mailer always breaks them. Solutions for this exist; for example, creating separate filesystem slices per-jail. The problem with this solution is the need for planning ahead in avoidance of reallocation disk space. vnode-backed md(4) devices can remedy this solution, allowing administrators to create chunks of a filesystem on-the-fly, while maintaining space quotas within their jails. The attached patch explains how to create space limitations for jails using vnode-backed md(4) devices. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Patch attached with submission follows: --- doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails/chapter.sgml.orig 2009-11-10 18:17:21.000000000 -0500 +++ doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails/chapter.sgml 2009-11-23 19:35:10.000000000 -0500 @@ -964,4 +964,117 @@ + + + File-Backed Jails + + + + + + Glen + Barber + Contributed by + + + + + + Creating a File-Backed Jail + + + The &man.jail.8; environment alone provides no mechanism to restrict disk + space used by the &man.jail.8;. However, this does not appear to have been the case for several years; pflog(4) was apparently moved to a separate pflog.ko in 2006 (see svn r155337). "If no space is available at the socket to hold the message to be trans- mitted, then sctp_sendmsg(2) normally blocks" There is also a wrong link to sctp_recvmsg(2): it should be sctp_recvmsg(3): "It will be available on recep- tion of a message (see sctp_recvmsg(2))" >How-To-Repeat: View the sctp_send(3) and sctp_sendmsg(3) manual pages: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=sctp_send&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+8.0-RELEASE&format=html http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=sctp_sendmsg&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+8.0-RELEASE&format=html >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Nov 27 15:18:48 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 175EC1065679 for ; Fri, 27 Nov 2009 15:18:48 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from kuuse@redantigua.com) Received: from webmail6.g.dreamhost.com (caiajhbihbdd.dreamhost.com [208.97.187.133]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 020598FC0C for ; Fri, 27 Nov 2009 15:18:47 +0000 (UTC) Received: from webmail.redantigua.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by webmail6.g.dreamhost.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4005A60FC1 for ; Fri, 27 Nov 2009 07:18:45 -0800 (PST) Received: from 212.163.4.98 (proxying for 212.163.4.98) (SquirrelMail authenticated user kuuse@redantigua.com) by webmail.redantigua.com with HTTP; Fri, 27 Nov 2009 16:18:45 +0100 Message-ID: <380c36d5cd26ea1f8ed9c1a411ded3a2.squirrel@webmail.redantigua.com> In-Reply-To: <20091127120008.C8D9C10656DF@hub.freebsd.org> References: <20091127120008.C8D9C10656DF@hub.freebsd.org> Date: Fri, 27 Nov 2009 16:18:45 +0100 From: kuuse@redantigua.com To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org User-Agent: SquirrelMail/1.4.19 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Subject: pcm(4) typos X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 27 Nov 2009 15:18:48 -0000 Typos in pcm(4): In pcm(4), the SEE ALSO section, the URLs are followed by a dot (.) shouldn't be included in the URL. Would this make a worthy Press item for FreeBSD? The current article is hosted on my blog on the following location: http://www.evilcoder.org/2009/11/27/welcome-to-freebsd-8/ Please share your opinion(s) with me, so that we can either add it to the Press list or something, or so that I can improve the article itself. I am also eager in learning how people like these kind of articles, and whether I should try to do them periodically or not. Thanks! I, for one, didn't know that there was a processor named "Core Duo" (series T2xxx according to Wikipedia), thus I am still not 100% (99,9% maybe :D) sure this means that my Core 2 Duo is supported. So, I am proposing a more detailed format for this line. Something like... *All Intel Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Core 2 SomethingElseThatFreeBSDSupports (but not the Core Duo, from T2xxx series) processors. Whatever this support and informations are taken for sure or not. Thanks for your attention. :) From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 28 20:32:40 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48B7D1065704 for ; Sat, 28 Nov 2009 20:32:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ftanasescu@gmail.com) Received: from mail-qy0-f174.google.com (mail-qy0-f174.google.com [209.85.221.174]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F1D588FC20 for ; Sat, 28 Nov 2009 20:32:39 +0000 (UTC) Received: by qyk4 with SMTP id 4so1022827qyk.7 for ; Sat, 28 Nov 2009 12:32:39 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:from:content-type :content-transfer-encoding:subject:date:message-id:to:mime-version :x-mailer; bh=LkgGVy8E+B9rfiuif4CCj5qltl/RkjGnuSoOVQ6to1U=; b=g9Aj7J8zNFm3df44HZ0J6WyGs0hBPi5FbcgFothW8rOWxKPf/Ys7F8aDw3tf/J9GhW ea++Q6JzdBGLpraz01BmG3JilGqeAf2Thu5Pjmi9bQUZWpB7fXCI5U5fNmVnwuNjN/4Z UEdrCbfnrLbSSXOA19L/Azf7jt0H3ob/DAvmY= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=from:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:subject:date:message-id :to:mime-version:x-mailer; b=tIltDzhU+UFFRgU1wOs14RZOBRGKZpTmveKK9+IpwhjavbG/Xm4xs4dQJkOp6REBl7 uVQTTk83DuLfc3D5LLBxa5zZ+5Pcr0KCBmP8DQVh32Yd9E2E5CVMTPL2qHeUjKfV6VLs qRFvbutERrpX2+mxnSV7eTISE6FKuYPWQna2A= Received: by 10.224.85.139 with SMTP id o11mr1229486qal.237.1259438462875; Sat, 28 Nov 2009 12:01:02 -0800 (PST) Received: from ?192.168.0.194?
