I tried but I still dont know how to build gnome-session with debug symbol... I only can type in 'make config' in the folder of gnome-panel. I will give you the backtrack later but accorading to my analysis, I think this is a problem related to dbus or polkit. Because it looks that most of the programs which depand on dbus have problems. For example, not only gnome-panl but also gnome-keyring-daemon and other applications also show this message in console. And also, when I click on a non-FreeBSD partition, no window would shown. If I wait for more than 5min it would show a error message window read 'No Response'(I cannot remember the exact mesage but I know its a very long error message with hal no response). ------------------ Bear 2010-06-17 ------------------------------------------------------------- From:Joe Marcus Clarke Send Date:2010-06-16 06:42:02 To:Bear CC:freebsd-gnome Subject:Re: GNOME can work well in VMWare but cannot work in real machine On 6/15/10 1:13 PM, Bear wrote: > hi, > I have done this. Once attached, run "bt" to get a backtrace. That may help isolate the problem. Beyond that limit, files will be polled. If you often open several large folders with Nautilus, you might want to increase the kern.maxfiles tunable (you do not need to set kern.maxfilesperproc, since it is computed at boot time from kern.maxfiles). For a typical desktop, add the following line to /boot/loader.conf, then reboot the system: kern.maxfiles=3D"25000" The behavior of gamin can be controlled via the various gaminrc files. See http://www.gnome.org/~veillard/gamin/config.html on how to create these files. Multiple segmentation faults occurred; can't display error dialog Other times it complains that (evolution:3192): gtkhtml-editor-WARNING **: : No such language Also, I'm having a weird problem trying to import my old Inbox and Sent files. I've copied them over from my old box, and tried to import them as single files with the Evo utility. In the screen where you select the file, it always chooses one other than the one I selected. Earlier I simply copied these over to the right place in .evolution and let the program index itself. Does this still work? The is on 32-bit 8.0 p3 with Gnome 2.30.0; both have been installed over the last few days from an updated src and ports tree. Gnome was set up with the default settings. It resides in VMware Player (Win7 64-bit host) and uses the open-vmtools. I've started the various Gnome daemons manually, but did not use gdm (yet) while I am debugging things. Advice would be most welcomed! Clearly something is not right. For some reason, fonts in both native firefox and pidgin (the only two gtk/gnome applications in use here) no longer render as anything, but boxes. On stderr there are scaring warnings like: (Pidgin:20448): Pango-WARNING **: font_face status is: out of memory (Pidgin:20448): Pango-WARNING **: scaled_font status is: out of memory (Pidgin:20448): Pango-WARNING **: shaping failure, expect ugly output. shape-engine='BasicEngineFc', font='DejaVu Sans Bold 12', text='....' According to search-engines, people have seen this problem under Linux, but the fixes/workarounds proposed seem both voodoo and too Linux-centric :-( The linux-firefox continues to work fine, which suggests, the actual fonts themselves are still Ok. I even tried moving the user's home directory aside and making her login afresh -- but the problem persisted, so it is not related to the user-settings. I even did `portupgrade -aRr' and still have the problem. Any ideas?
