My broadband will be down for a few months and my solar system needs to call home every so often to report production. My plan is to connect the solar system 'gateway' to the laptop via a crossover ethernet cable and have the laptop connect to my dial-up isp periodically so it can report its condition and production. One part is hanging this up. I have a Zoom 2975L pcmcia "dual mode pc card faxmodem" that I have not been able to get running on freebsd. I have found some previous conversations (in the archives) about this particular modem but they were all about problems, none had solutions. I have observed the same symptom others have seen, CIS too long and interrupt storm on irq11. Does anyone have any special sauce that will make this modem work? I am running "FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p8" but could upgrade if I thought it would help. Thanks for the help Norm From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 12 16:01:52 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E0BE31065673 for ; Thu, 12 Aug 2010 16:01:52 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from markus.hoenicka@mhoenicka.de) Received: from smtprelay04.ispgateway.de (smtprelay04.ispgateway.de [80.67.31.42]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A05418FC12 for ; Thu, 12 Aug 2010 16:01:52 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [80.67.16.114] (helo=webmailfront03.ispgateway.de) by smtprelay04.ispgateway.de with esmtpsa (TLSv1:AES256-SHA:256) (Exim 4.68) (envelope-from ) id 1Oja35-0000rC-JJ for freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org; Thu, 12 Aug 2010 17:50:31 +0200 Received: from pc51997.klinik.uni-regensburg.de (pc51997.klinik.uni-regensburg.de [132.199.174.149]) by webmail.df.eu (Horde Framework) with HTTP; Thu, 12 Aug 2010 17:50:31 +0200 Message-ID: <20100812175031.197749slaowmk12c@webmail.df.eu> Date: Thu, 12 Aug 2010 17:50:31 +0200 From: Markus Hoenicka To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org References: <4C64131D.2000707@earthlink.net> In-Reply-To: <4C64131D.2000707@earthlink.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; DelSp="Yes"; format="flowed" Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit User-Agent: domainFACTORY X-Originating-IP: 132.199.174.149 X-Df-Sender: 472582 Subject: Re: pcmcia modem problems X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 12 Aug 2010 16:01:53 -0000 Norm Scherer was heard to say: > Does anyone have any special sauce that will make this modem work? Although this won't answer your question immediately, I visited ebay real quick and checked their offerings in terms of pcmcia modems. I've noticed that most of them linger without a bid and could be shot for a Euro (or a Dollar in your case). That being said, did the archives tell you about a modem that works out of the box? In that case, getting one that works might be the easiest route. just my 2 pence Markus -- Markus Hoenicka http://www.mhoenicka.de AQ score 38
