From: "deeptech71@gmail.com" To: bug-followup@freebsd.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/137748: x11/xorg: "unprocessed" mouse click results in effective mouse being locked in an area Date: Thu, 1 Sep 2011 06:27:04 +0200 Alright, the root cause of this "bug" was a semi-broken mouse. The mouse had been physically beaten a lot, and as a result, it had a button (a so-called "universal forward button", btw) constantly pressed (ie., without the need to press the button by hand). X does not act very well with such a mouse. In other words, press-and-hold the right mouse button (or some other fancy mouse button you might have), then try to work with the mouse in X, and see what happens. Also try this on some other operating systems with X. On a side note, Windows XP works well with such a mouse: there is some (hard to describe) mouse click instability right after booting, but that goes away after a few clicks. Maybe some minor workarounds could be added to X to allow such mice to work better, but without breaking other things. This will have to be discussed with the X people. If the FreeBSD maintainers are not responsible for such changes, then: This PR can be closed. I'll also try to get all other similar bug reports (for GNU/Linux systems) out there closed. If you have tested this driver to build and run and work with the current xorg in ports, then it might work. If not, you have to wait for the KMS work to be finished, or test it yourself together with the xorg-dev repository. I think you'll find the details about this here on the list and on the wiki. I was not aware about this. To me the kernel was supposed to send orders directly to the device through standard mecanisms and so, while a new feature as some 3D stuff or whatever was required by Xorg, it would work. I use a normal FreeBSD 8.2p2 amd64 with the xorg port compiled 2 weeks ago. The worse that can happen is my PC freeze or reboot. I'll live with this ;-) I'll test anyways and will keep you posted. Thanks! I'll be delighted to hear that it works on any of the newer CPUs commonly referred to to as "Second Generation" (Sandy Bridge) with integral "Intel 3000" graphics. I have read that they simply don't operate without kernel mode setting and would be overjoyed to get mine to work (other than with VESA) without the installation of the KMS patches and all of the related stuff on -current. -- R. Is the X server itself built and installed with the debugging symbols ? I had no problems with debugging X server built from xorg-dev ports using -DWITH_DEBUG make flag. =46rom the evidence sent to me in private, it seems that the gem page fault handler might be responsible for the problem.
