You'll only be able to run single vCPU FreeBSD guests since they boot directly into 64-bit mode: everything else (including multiple vCPU guests) requires either 16-bit support or 32-bit non-paged protected mode, both of which are only available on Intel with the 'unrestricted guest' feature. later, Peter. Yes, that a good idea especially taking into account that I have many variables. I'm trying to migrate Windows 7 on an encrypted volume from VBox to bhyve. The advantage of a floppy drive is that it's drive letter in Windows is always "A:". I believe the ecnryption key is tied to it too. Currently I'm going to decrypt it first to make sure that the migration itself works. Then will follow in particular your advice. The USB contrell pass-trough is a must for me since I need many USB devices in that virtualized Windows. Thanks for the report. I was able to repro this and get the same error. Instruction emulation takes place on an EPT fault, and when bhyve can't handle this and exits, a 'bhyvectl --get-all' can be used to extraxt some post-mortem state. In this case, the gla/gpa associated with the exit can be found: ... gla[0] 0xffffffffff5fd023 gpa[0] 0x00000000fee00023 ... The gpa is in local APIC ID register. It's not 4-byte aligned, which is a bit unusual, so is probably a byte instruction. Putting the instruction bytes into a small program and using gdb as a disassembler gives: (gdb) x/i &a 0x6009ec : and 0xffffffffff5fd023,%dil It's the 'REX + 22 /r' form of the AND instruction. This isn't supported by bhyve - it only des the 22/81/83 variants of AND, so will have to be added. later, Peter. Having issues getting DNS working inside of a container. Can't seem to = work around the issue either; according to the official documentation the d= ocker engine is supposed to use the local host's /etc/resolv.conf and if it= can't find any DNS servers there, use 8.8.8.8. Is there a workaround to getting DNS inside of a container aside from manua= lly building each image? I can start and halt Windo= ws 2012 R2 many times, and bhyve always pass through that USB controller to the guest.
