Dear FreeBSDers, Thanks for the suggestions, several of which were "busted floppy", as above, but I don't think that's my problem, since I remade the floppy several times, and booting from the hard drive gives the SAME ERROR. My system is up again, and here is how I do it: I boot DOS6.22 with no EMM386 (my "vanilla" configuration). Then, I execute fbsdboot.exe, which I found on the CDROM. I copied it to my DOS hard drive, and I just say fbsdboot My FreeBSD partition then boots up fine. I have made this outcome a menuitem in my DOS config.sys and autoexec.bat files, which is therefore acting as a more reliable Boot Manager for me than Boot Easy, which continues to lead to the same error. Conclusion: Since my system can boot with this workaround, there must not be any fundamental hardware or FreeBSD operating problem. Maybe it's the boot manager? Or something very early in the boot process that can't find its way on my disk. Again, thanks for the feedback, and you probably haven't heard the end from me. P.S. How do I subscribe to this bulletin board, or what's its news group name? Wayne M. Barnes, Ph.D. fax: 314/362-7183 or 362-3350 Dept. Biochemistry 8231, Washington Univ.
