I'll second that. ThinkPad's aren't the cheapest laptops around by a (very) long shot, but they're extremely well built and seem to get along just fine with FreeBSD. Bear in mind that most laptops use funky graphics chipsets that may be only minimally supported by XFree86, if at all.
