First, I think you should use 'k5admin' not 'kadmin', If you use the version of Heimdal that comes with FBSD. There's no manpage installed, but there is one in the source. (/usr/src/crypto/heimdal/kadmin/kadmin.8, but the binary is run as k5admin) '-l' means 'local mode. It will not connect to a kadmind. I think you can create realms with the 'init' command.
