Install emulators/virtualbox-ose-additions on the FreeBSD VM.  Then 
either remove any xorg.conf in it so that X can autodetect the mouse, or 
modify it like this:

Section "ServerLayout"
 	Identifier "whatever"
 	InputDevice "Mouse1"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
 	Identifier "Mouse1"
 	Driver "vboxmouse"
EndSection
