It was quite silly really - I forgot that I had half upgraded my world to 4.6.2 from 4.6 (for some reason the machine lorked up during make installworld). Anyhow, I've made installworld again and reinstalled the kernel and the problems seem to be gone now. Thanks for the help :) -lewiz.
