It is unrelated to both DOS and Windows. It is UNIX and can be run on the same computer as Windows or DOS. That is how mine is setup. It is much more stable than any of the Windows incarnations. And best of all it is free or can be had for nominal cost on a CDROM. FreeBSD is a great server operating system and it can be used as a desktop OS. There is a bit of a learning curve, but with some effort it can replace Windows for most day-to-day work. Check out our web site at www.freebsd.org for more info.
