Unfortunately it misses one thing. The article tells you to add a line in /etc/rc.local, which doesn't seem to exist on 4.3-STABLE. For the final detail on getting xdm to start, look at the manual at http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/x-xdm.html Particularly section 12.5.2. There is one field on one line that must change from 'off' to 'on'.
