Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Experience: Successful Debian Linux installs since 1993, Also using a QNX distribution for data acquisition. System: Zeos 486-DX266 VLB system with 1 on-board ide controller, 1 Adaptec AHA1542CF SCSI adapter. System boots from a 340M WD Caviar hd, which is a master for a 210 WD Caviar hd. The 1542 has an ibm 500M hd and a Toshiba 3401TA cd-rom attached to it at scsi addresses 7, 1 and 2, respectively. Cirrus Logic CL-GDXX series video board. 1 Intel EtherExpress 8/16 network card. Problem: Trying to install from the 4.0 March 2000 Walnut Creek distribution using the boot and root floppies. Installation stops at searching for the cd-rom. It can't find it because the card wasn't probed (the ibm scsi hd wasn't found either). Tried: Reading the F*&#(@! manual, errata.txt, hardware.txt, install.txt, readme.txt, book.txt, the faq and searched the mailing list archives. I have set the AHA1542 per hardware txt. Set the EtherExpress per the hardware.txt. Pulled the EtherExpress, and manually set the board parameters in the CLI screen. The farthest I got was a prompt telling me that the system was letting the scsi system "rest" for 15 seconds (at which point it locked up). I KNOW I have my termination correct, I KNOW my boards and cables are serviceable. Please tell me what I am missing.
