I would like to use KDE 4.12. My OS version is FreeBSD 10-Stable. Can I use KDE 4.12 with the xorg server version 1.7.7_11,1? If I need to use xorg server 1.12, will I need to build it using WITH_NEW_XORG and WITH_GALLIUM in /etc/make.conf; or, should/could I build xorg server 1.12 without these options? (Video card information from pciconf included at the end of this message.) I wondered if I should upgrade the xorg server first and try it with my current version of KDE (4.10) first of all, to see if my hardware functions with the newer xserver. Finally, is it now possible to carry out these upgrades using pkg? I read about the 'WITH_NEW_XORG' repository at http://pkg.freebsd.org/freebsd:10:x86:64/new_xorg/. Or is it recommended to use poudriere, for example, to build it all locally and then upgrade? I really would appreciate some guidance with these questions if possible. I've already made one attempt to upgrade this software but I couldn't start the xserver and/or KDE because it crased X11. It took days to restore everything back to the older versions which do work nicely. Many thanks for your time, Jamie. hostb0@pci0:0:0:0: class=0x060000 card=0x304817aa chip=0x2e108086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '4 Series Chipset DRAM Controller' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI cap 09[e0] = vendor (length 12) Intel cap 6 version 1 PCI errors = Received Master-Abort vgapci0@pci0:0:2:0: class=0x030000 card=0x304817aa chip=0x2e128086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller' class = display subclass = VGA bar [10] = type Memory, range 64, base 0xfc000000, size 4194304, enabled bar [18] = type Prefetchable Memory, range 64, base 0xe0000000, size 268435456, enabled bar [20] = type I/O Port, range 32, base 0x1c70, size 8, enabled cap 05[90] = MSI supports 1 message enabled with 1 message cap 01[d0] = powerspec 2 supports D0 D3 current D0 vgapci1@pci0:0:2:1: class=0x038000 card=0x304817aa chip=0x2e138086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller' class = display bar [10] = type Memory, range 64, base 0xfc400000, size 1048576, enabled cap 01[d0] = powerspec 2 supports D0 D3 current D0
