Then concider moving them to a *different spindle. I found a couple of core dumps and reduced / from 97% full to 85% used locate *.core then I went through the root directory and removed a couple of files and a .netscape directory and got it down to 63% found a bunch of kde themes and got it down to 53% now the biggest directories are kde format desktop stuff in the /root/.kde directory. since i put in xdm I can't and won't be logging in as root and using these files. can i ditch them? *If you find that /tmp is on the root partition concider making it an MFS. I'm thinking about moving tmp to /usr and using a link. Does it make sense to do this? Do these steps seem correct? 1 Configure kernel with options MFS 2 Add a line in /etc/fstab I see an example in the handbook in the kernel config section but I'm not sure how to determine the device name to use. 3 reboot *If /var or /usr are on root then you have a bigger job ahead. * *chris * *-- * Chris Fedde * 303 773 9134 Thanks for the help ( thanks also to the others that helped also) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I hope that after I die, people will say of me : " That guy sure owed me a lot of money." -JH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
