I found out that the problem does not exist with the 5.2.1 system I tested. I could build the port just fine on 5.2.1-RELEASE. It is not very useful there, though. If it is really something that is specific to 4.9 resp. 4.10 then I will submit a bug report. I should note that I didn't attempt to upgrade perl on the 4.9-STABLE system. I tried to install the up-to-date perl from the ports collection, in addition to the system perl. Michael
