Also, it does not seem to be limited to amd64, because I have seen similar problems on recent 8-CURRENT i386. Sometime in the past several weeks, some change in the source code of the base system has crippled the port build system when the WRKDIR is a tmpfs. The same problems do not occur with a ufs WRKDIR. In build transcripts, the problem appears to be that many pathnames are corrupted, breaking the build. In a follow-up I will include two gzipped build transcripts, one with a verbose make -d A output, that illustrate the problem.
