The longer one is something along the lines of: The cost of every new MB added to a machine with a new disk, does not justify nowadays the need for any form of compression. The added overhead in reading from and/or writing to such a drive is another reason for not doing this. You can come up with a billion more reasons for not doing such a thing, especially concerning performance and reliability of the data on your disks.
