One works fine and I ripped and encoded it with Grip. The other is problematic (Grip shows no tracklist): $ cdcontrol status No current status info available No media catalog info available Left volume = 255, right volume = 255 $ cdcontrol info cdcontrol: getting toc header: Input/output error cdcontrol: Input/output error $ cdcontrol play 1 cdcontrol: Input/output error $ echo $CDROM /dev/acd0 But the tracks are listed in /dev: $ ls -l /dev | grep acd crw-r--r-- 1 root operator 0, 85 Nov 30 23:27 acd0 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 91 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t01 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 92 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t02 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 93 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t03 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 94 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t04 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 95 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t05 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 96 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t06 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 97 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t07 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 98 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t08 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 99 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t09 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 100 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t10 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 101 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t11 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 102 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t12 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 103 Nov 30 23:27 acd0t13 crw-r----- 1 root operator 0, 138 Dec 23 12:01 acd0t14 I believe I can dd the tracks (can somebody give me an example command? I don't know what blocksize to use) and then encode although it's all a bit painful compared to using Grip. Any suggestions gratefully received.
